Singapore Flyer with Mr.Sawatdee

Sawadee! Welcome to the exciting world of the sexiest rice species. Yes. I’m none other than Mr. Sawadee, the most fashionable of them all. Have you met the rest? None of them is as sexy as me. So it comes as no surprise that OpenRice invited me to their first OpenRice Tasty Union at a very fashionable place: The Singapore Flyer! Sigh. I was so entranced by the stylish central atrium which opens out to a tropical rainforest, an open-air theatre and a waterfront dining promenade.
A la mode...
How dashing it is to begin the evening after work at the VIP lounge with our very own hospitable in-flight host in passable butler attire. The uniformed host and hostess in attendance added on a tasteful atmosphere to the World’s First Full-Butler dining in the skies! Oh a la mode…
Oh, can you see me?
I have to agree with one our dashing guest, Smithankyou who said… “The word is - privilege. You feel like you are the V.I.P of the flyers in fact you are. Not only did we not need to join in the main queue to get onto the capsule we actually travel up in a V.I.P lift which then leads to the V.I.P lounge where we had our dessert after the whole sky dining experience.” I agree and oh yes, Smithankyou was tastefully dressed. I like his style that evoked the feel of sexy A-list celebrity, Ashton Kutcher. Oh so as part of the package, we were all treated to a welcome drink and 2 courses to be served in 2 rotations. I totally enjoyed the welcome drink. It pleases my designer taste buds very well. Oh Summer Berries in Ginger Ale! Truly it was all a la mode… The welcoming was modish with dining tables all set up with lavish linen, setting and floral centerpiece… even the banquet cushion chair were fitted with matching chair cover It was refreshing to have the one of a kind Summer Berries in Ginger Ale (even the name sounds delicious!) as a welcome drink to sip on as we took in the 360 degree views of iconic landmarks. We also had starters, but apart from the fancy names (Marinated Tuna Seaweed Furuke, Ahi Tuna in Japanese dressing accompanied with olive honey tomato and daikon cress), it was nothing more than ordinary apart from its uppity display. Still, it was a la mode… Donald, an immaculately dressed young man who usually takes voguish wedding pictures had his virgin food picture-taking that evening. Here’s his perfect picture of the marvellous spread on the table. A la mode…

Ah, while awaiting the rest of the dishes to be served, the magically special LED lighting on the giant wheel rim provides a kaleidoscopic visual display. Attractive... I love it when such details further enhance the aesthetic feel of the environment. Everything is just so… A la mode… Smithankyou actually brought along a tiny tubby green alien who was very attracted to the Stewed Lamb Shank Vindaloo. Simmered with scented Asian spices, it’s no wonder the tubby-looking alien in a typical alien suit which could be spruced up beautifully with some glitters loved this dish so much. Oh look at him. How curiously adorable?

As for the other main, Artic Char Salmon Escalopes, it was basically thinly sliced salmon stacked and drizzled in ginger soya gravy.
A la mode...
Let’s hear from CuisineParadise, a pretty mother with a flair for cooking who had this dish as her choice of for the main course. “It consists of thinly sliced salmon stacked on top of the mashed potatoes patty, asparagus and etc. Beside it, there is a shooter glass with some ginger soya gravy to accompany the dish. Overall the dish taste quite good except I find that the salmon might be a bit too try if you don’t dipped it in the ginger soya gravy.” Well well well how could we not have wine at such a stylish event? Sarah from The Local Nose shares her thoughts on recommending a bottle of Misha's High Note Pinot Noir 2008 that is versatile enough for a choice of lamb, chicken, and salmon. “My guess was right! The "High Note" certainly sang full-throated aside the Lamb while it did a more melodic, fruity tune to the salmon. No one ordered the chicken as it turned out so I don't know the pair there. Still, the versatile Pinot Noir was a great choice for the meaty salmon and lamb - both of which are at opposite ends of the food-pairing spectrum but Misha's High Note Pinot Noir 2008 bridged the gap beautifully.” She is a remarkable lady. I heard that she can even pair wine with local delights such as chicken rice? Who says wine is only for uppity event? Anyway, after spending an hour in the capsule, we were whisked off to the VIP Lounge for dessert and beverages. Sticky Toffee Pudding was served with dual sauce caramel and crème anglaise.

I think it was tasteful to savour a well-prepared dessert with Singapore’s sparkling night lights over the background. A la mode… Ah by the way, OpenRice team produced a video after the event. That’s awesome because just like fashion, you can’t just take words to size up anything. So, feel the lavish setting over this video that encapsulates OpenRice’s exclusive dining event at The Singapore Flyer and hear from the other guests! The highlight of the Singapore Flyer Full Butler Sky Dining Experience lies mainly in its fantastic ambiance and soft music. The menu varies from month to month, and for the month of July, I would say, while satisfactory, was nothing extraordinary. P.S: Guys, if you’re proposing, let this place be it. Magically sweep her off her feet by bringing her to the top of the world. A la mode… Well if you are not as stylish as me, I guess your elegant date will be more than happy to overlook all your shortcomings after a stunning evening at the Singapore Flyer.
Love love love
Sigh. I’m still waiting for the right lady to come along. Tsk tsk tsk… Don’t you know? Not every girl matches my impeccable, a la mode… lifestyle. Till my next outing with OpenRice Tasty Union, feel free to share on the Singapore Flyer if you have ever dined 165 meters in the sky. A la mode… Mr.Sawatdee is a resident rice writer at OpenRice Singapore. At times, you twitch in annoyance as if he is a fashionable airhead who can’t stop elaborating on his fashionable interests. A la mode… But in truth, he is really a good natured fellow. Stay with OpenRice Tasty Union journal to find out more! Coming up is OpenRice Tasty Union at Western Chow with Ms.Zhang! Can't get enough? Here are more fine dining options Bars and lounges for a chill night out
