2012-08-29
You know good food to die for, but what about good food with a view to die for?
At Faber Bistro, you’re promised a dazzling view of the city no matter the time of the day
Located high up in the clouds, Faber Bistro sits perched atop Mount Faber, one of Singapore’s most popular tourist spots. Known for its sophisticated bars, classy dining venues and of course, the iconic cable car attraction, Mount Faber takes the cake for being the ultimate hangout for those who want spoil the senses with fantastic food, delicious drinks and a drop-dead gorgeous view.
Don’t forget to check out Faber Bistro’s very unique garden
At Faber Bistro, things are a little more on the casual side. This laid-back eatery welcomes just about anyone – from runners working up a good sweat at Mount Faber, to dog owners who want their best friends with them and their family during dinner. Another interesting feature of Faber Bistro is their mini garden, which grows a variety of key ingredients, from ginger to pandan and lime.
Grilled Fresh Prawns with Citrus Salad & Hazelnut Dressing (top) and Eggs Benedict with Honey Baked Ham or Smoked Salmon & Hollandaise (bottom)
Want a hearty *breakfast or a satisfying salad? There are quite a few options to choose from, but if you can’t decide then order the Grilled Fresh Prawns with Citrus Salad & Hazelnut Dressing ($15) for salad and the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon & Hollandaise ($12) for the first meal of the day. Nothing beats the refreshing taste of citrus with the additions of fresh prawns, crunchy greens and earthy hazelnut dressing, and the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon & Hollandaise’s for you if you like your eggs benedict a little different from the norm. Of course, if you’re not a very adventurous foodie, choose honey baked ham instead.
Clockwise from left: FB Burger, Faber Bistro’s condiment counter and FB Ruben Sandwich
For some classic dishes, there’s the FB Ruben Sandwich ($18) and the FB Burger ($22), both of which are signature dishes of Faber Bistro. Taste the difference with the FB Burger – homemade beef patty, fried egg, bacon, mushrooms and melted cheddar cheese sandwiched between warm sesame buns and served with fries and salad. The thick, mouth-watering beef patty is chock-full of spices and is incredibly fresh. The FB Ruben Sandwich boasts an interesting combination of flavours that come from the beef pastrami and corned beef with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut (a type of zesty vegetable mix using cabbage) and Russian dressing. Accompanying these dishes is also your choice of condiment. Select from Faber Bistro’s 12 signature condiments and sauces from the condiment counter. A personal favourite that’s strongly recommended is the Raspberry Mango & Chilli Sauce; this special concoction makes the taste buds go all tingly with delight and goes great with fries.
FB Bavarian Pot (left) and Braised Lamb Shank with Mashed Potatoes, Garden Vegetables & Kecap Manis (right)
If you’ve a voracious appetite, consider either the FB Bavarian Pot ($20) or the Braised Lamb Shank with Mashed Potatoes, Garden Vegetables & Kecap Manis ($23). The FB Bavarian Pot – an assortment of sausages with kassler (salted smoked pork) and creamy mash with sauerkraut and gravy – is an extremely satisfying dish on its own and is known as “classic European comfort food”. The Braised Lamb Shank is a fusion-type dish, with the local touch of spicy-sweet kecap manis. Braised with 5 different kinds of spices for a full-bodied flavor, the Braised Lamb Shank is definitely one item that you shouldn’t miss at Faber Bistro.
Home Baked Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream (left) and Flourless Chocolate Ganache Cake with Orange Sauce (right)
You’d better have room for dessert because at Faber Bistro, the selection is absolutely divine. Since chocolate is virtually everyone’s weakness, the two sweet treats you should be trying are Home Baked Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream ($8.50) and Flourless Chocolate Ganache Cake with Orange Sauce ($12). The Home Baked Chocolate Brownie is a classic and you can’t go wrong with the warm, moist treat, but the Flourless Chocolate Ganache Cake is a real winner with its smooth, rich, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Plus, the fact that ground almond is used as a healthy alternative to flour makes this dessert even more appealing! ---- Address: 109 Mount Faber Road, Singapore 099203 (Upper terrace of Mount Faber, a short walk from The Jewel Box) Tel.
