Hill Top Restaurant is not an easily accessible place unless you have an automobile. It's really a great getaway from the city, in the city. I love the notion of stepping in and feeling like you're not really in Singapore, (but not really in Japan either), it's just such a great getaway and strangely it sort of brings me back to Taiwan where there's such tranquility and peace! Please DO NOT take these stairs when you see it. There is another way to get around it, just keep walking straight unti

Please DO NOT take these stairs when you see it. There is another way to get around it, just keep walking straight until you see a sort-of-look-like-a-multistorey-carpark and go all the way up! Anyway, there is really a beautiful view overlooking the shores of Singapore, so you can take your loved one there if you're a hopeless romantic.

The Japanese restaurant is located right beside the erm, Indonesian food restaurant. You can get the menus from both restaurant and sit anywhere you like, it's rather spacious and comfortable.

They try to mimic the Japanese-style but the atmosphere didn't quite put it well because of the Indonesian fusion in it. We didn't really have a friendly service crew helping us out, as we were quite blur initially on where to sit and which restaurant belonged to who, and they didn't explain to us but just handed us four types of menus which was really quite confusing.

Satay (6 pcs; Min order: 5 pcs) = $6
The first time I put this in my mouth, I really felt I was eating some stone. It was quite difficult to chew, but I really had no idea why the more I chew, the more I love it. It became much more chewable after awhile.

The sauce is the highlight of the satay, but they gave a rather small amount, slightly less than half. It should be sweet peanut sauce, and I love the outcome of my chunky meat soaked in the delicious sauce!

Teriyaki Chicken Ramen - $8
Twirling my noodles and fishing for delicious chicken chunks in the ramen is really fun. The ramen was nothing fantastic, I'd rate it quite averagely. I really enjoyed slurping down the soup, it was salty and it was sweet, making the bowl totally flavourful!

Tempura Udon - SGD$8
I fell in love with this! Initially thought it'd be just a preserved already-made Udon, but the texture tasted nothing like those that you can buy from supermarket. It comes with a standard, the udon. I was really disappointed that the tempura prawn.. was only ONE in quantity. The rest had fried capsicum (which was rather battered with the flour and all), green pepper, carrot and other vegetables. I wish they could give at least two prawns, but I guess it's because it's just $8?

Here's a close-up of the prawns as side-dishes, and I'm glad they didn't soak these deep-fried luxury into the soup as that would take away all their crispiness. It was really a crunch in my mouth!

Garlic Rice - $4.20
This is probably the highlight of the meal, the garlic rice was extremely a special and unique dish coming from the Japanese cuisine industry. Be sure to flush down all your garlic 'stench' with fluids! This dish could be used as a side dish instead (as you order your main meal) and be shared among your dining partners.

We were a group of three, and spent $32.80 in total. I must emphasize that I really feel it's rather affordable for a place and food like this.
