Seasons Bistro ('SB'), a modern North American inspired bistro located at 111 Somerset Road. While most of us will probably remember this building as the SP Power building, it had a makeover and transformed into a place for dining and groceries near Orchard Shopping belt. Seasons Bistro present a diversified menu that changes to draw out the best taste from the seasonal freshest ingredients and maintain an affordable price for its customers. During the day, the bistro are well lit with natural lights that come through the huge pane of glasses. While in the evening, a slightly traditional theme lighting are used. With the American influences, the dining area are decorated with Americans influences, traditional style wooden chairs, wooden tables, and 1970s record. There is also a bar and drinking area for those who enjoys one or two after-work drinks. We begin our tasting session with Pan Seared Foie Gras ($19) and Cajun Blacken Fish Taco ($16). The Foie Gras is nicely pan fried, crisp on the outside and served on a thick slice of French Toast brioche. The combination of chocolate ganache and bacon jam provide a complementary flavours to the Foie Gras. The Cajun Blacken Fish Taco is unique and new to me. Using haddock white fish, the texture is lean and firm, but with a mild flavour which made it flexible to combine with other flavours for the taco. For the flavours, it tasted sweet and creamy from the pickled onions and avocado mayonnaise, while for the texture, it has crispy and juicy texture. If you never had taco before, imagine you are eating Kueh Pie Tee with cheese. Watch out for the Jalapeno though, it is fiery. For salads, we have two choices of Superfood Salad ($18) and Baja Cobb's Salad ($19). Superfood salad is a super healthy salad, which consist of quinoa, chick peas, blueberries, avocado, pomegranate, pumpkin seed and citrus vinaigrette. It tasted fresh, but it can be slightly raw or very earthy to some. Meanwhile the Baja Cobb's Salad is my kind of salad, especially with cajun spiced chicken, eggs, bacon blue cheese and red wine vinaigrette. It is very tasty and the dressing binds all the ingredients well. Warning, Cobb salad has a reputation for being the unhealthy salad, but it just taste so good!! Mains portrays more on the theme of the restaurant, AMERICAN. SFC Seasons Fried Chicken ($25), Jerk Spiced Pork Meatloaf ($29), Seasons Cheese Burger ($25) and Roasted Lamb Rack ($32). For the fried chicken, it uses buttermilk as part of the seasoning to help maintain the moisture in the chicken so it is tender and succulent. That can be said about the fried chicken here, however it is not very flavourful. They expect the succotash and deviled ranch dressing and homemade catchup to add the taste to the fried chicken. I personally like my fried chicken without any sauce, so I think it is so so only. The meatloaf is seasoned using jerk spiced, which originated from Caribbean / West Indies communities. It has a very earthy and strong flavour and normally they dry rub it into the meat. In this case, the meatloaf has a unique flavour to it. Either you like it or your don't. I personally like this, especially with the smooth and creamy mash potatoes. For the lamb rack, I find it cooked unevenly, some part of the meat is juicy and succulent, while the other part can be chewy. The potato is nice though, combination of half potato, filled with mash potatoes and baked again. Unfortunately the gravy was just overpowering. Burger is a must try dish here. We had two burgers, one cooked to medium rare and the other to medium. Both burger are nicely done, tasty and juicy. According to SB, the brioche buns are baked fresh by Imperial Treasure bakery next door, based on the chef's requirement. If anything that can be improve from this burger, it will be the fries. Midway through the burger, the fries become soggy already. While Southend Pasta ($22) looks like a comforting dish with the sausage and tomato based sauce, it was a total disappointment. The pasta was overcooked to the point of soggy and the sauce is very lacklustre. More chorizo, more cheese and less cooking time for the pasta might do the trick to improve this dish. Coming to the end, we had two desserts to try. Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake ($12) and Miss D's Pecan Pie ($12). The cheesecake has a dense and solid texture. It is tasty, creamy and goes well with the cranberry cream. For the Pecan Pie, the fillings was very sweet and it does not hold well together. It breaks before we even touch it, and the ice cream was just too sweet. Rather than using vanilla ice cream, probably a fruit sorbet will be a better option. Overall, SB allowed me to have a taste of some North American dish such as their Fish Taco, Cobb Salad and the Jerk Spiced Meat Loaf. As SB continue to change their menu seasonally, the chef has an opportunity to fine tune the menu. So if you are in Orchard Area, give Seasons Bistro a try. Cheers!! This is my first food tasting session with OpenRice, I want to express my thanks for being selected for this event.LocationA stone throw away from 313 Somerset shopping center. Seasons Bistro is easily spotted with their huge shop sign growing in the dark, the bistro is facing the road making it easy for pass-by to notice.Food served in sequenceThis dish consists of avocado mayonnaise, pickled onions, crispy shallots, cotija cheese and made of haddock. Good for appiteizers and for sharing with 2-3pax. Fish served was warm and fresh and comliments wwell with the cheese and onions together with the crispy taco as a based. I am not much of a foie gras fan but tried nonetheless, the foie gras tasted very chewy and was sweet thanks to the french toast beneath it. This dish consists of chocolate ganache, accompanied by bacon jam, caramelized bananas, tomatoes & granola crumbs.Salald in this picture but might tell much but trust me the portion is easily enough to fill up 4 tummies. Filled with different kinds of vegetable, this dish is a must for the need to diet and the healther goers. Dont miss out. Those looking to have some protein to add to your meal can go for this dish, generiously filled with slices of spiced chicken, egg and nuts to add flavor to the greens in the sharing bowl. Great start to kick off a meal.Chicken wings and drumlets, 3-4 pieces if I am not wrong. Good to have as a side. Chicken was crispy and I felt it needed more taste, hence the tartar and ketchup was given. The meatloaf consits of ground pork meat mixed with cornmeal and seasonings which comes with mashed potatoes. The taste was not to my cup of tea but with the sauce below, it helps to add more flavor to it.The star dish of the night and my favourite. Bun was soft and lightly toasted with butter, beef patty was soft, chewy and juicy going well with the cheese and mushrooms. Must try for buger lovers. The lamb meat was succulent and soft. Comes with mushrooms, asparagus. Portion was small in my view, good for sharing to try out.Pasta was the last main of the tasting session, sad to say the pasta was overcooked. the sauce was too light which doesnt add much taste to the overall dish. Dish consists of agliatelle, chorizo sausages and homemade tomato sauce. Dessert time ! Pecan pie with a generous huge scoop of ice cream. Love the fresh pecan which flow smoothly with the ice cream. Maple pumpkin cheesecake was soft and moist and it goes with with the cream and berries. Both dessert good to end off a delicious meal.

Tonight I am invited to a food tasting event at this restaurant by OpenRice. Although the restaurant is located in TripleOne Somerset, which is just walking distance from the MRT station, most people are still quite lost with its location. The building is more commonly known as PUB building to the local Singaporeans. Most will remember going to the building to pay water bills in the past. The restaurant is located at the first floor, just next to the entrance facing Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Orchard. The restaurant offers North American Cuisine (consists such as Canadian cuisine, American cuisine, Mexican cuisine and Central American cuisine) and changes its menu seasonally. The restaurant also has a bar which serves a wide spread of drinks. The restaurant is decorated in black tones and American style but in a mordern way.Baja Cobb's Salad ($19++)An almost mexican salad ! Cajun spiced chicken, eggs, beans, bacon, olives, corn, mixed greens, watercress, tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese and house vinaigrette.Such a big serving and with a bit of everything, everyone is remarking that it is a great and filling one dish meal. From the crispy bacon, to the juicy chicken and crispy greens, it is such an explosion in my mouth.Superfood Salad ($18++)Quinoa, broccoli, chick peas, blueberries, capsicums, avocado, baby spinach, herbs, pomegrante & pumpkin seeds, citrus vinaigrette. It is a huge plate of greens, which frightens off the guys. I like the use of quinoa in the salad which makes it quite filling. The pomegrante has juicy and popping effects in the mouth. Blackened Fish Taco ($16++)Avocado mayonnise, pickled onions, crispy shallots, cotija cheese and cliantro jalapeno watercress salad on tortilla shell. With so many toppings (especially the tangy tasting, pink-colored pickled onions) on top of the juicy Haddock fish fillet, it opens my appetite for the meal.SFC Seasons Fried Chicken ($25++)Succotash and deviled ranch dressing and homemade catsup. The fried chicken is quite spicy with lots of different spices in it. I feel that the ranch dressing is a bit too overpowering to go with it, whereas the the catsup is a nice touch to it.Pan Seared Foie Gras ($19++)Pain de mie, chocolate ganache, bacon jam, caramelized bananas and granola crumbs. The bacon jam is interesting with bits of chewy bacon in it. The caramelized bananas has a melt in the mouth taste. Together it is a great combination. But the levels of lighting in the restaurant is quite poor, and we could barely figure out what we are eating.Season's Cheese Burger ($25++)Homemade 200grams beef patty, stripy jack cheese, brioche bun, pickled jalepenos, caramalized onions, bacon, mushrooms, catsup and mustard with fries. It is served on a big wooden chopping board. I feel that the patty could be more juicy. The bun which is freshly by next door Imperial Treasure Bakery, is quite soft and pillowy. But I am more turn on by the melt in the mouth caramlized onions on of the patty.Jerk Spiced Pork Meatloaf ($29++)Maple Bacon, Spinach, Mashed Potatoes & Gravey. The meatloaf tastes a bit dry but filled with different spices. The creamy mash potatoes is a great balance to the dish as it makes feel not so dry after all. The gravey has a chocolatey taste to it.Roasted Lamb Rack ($32++)Baked potato, Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts, Veal Jus, Mint Pesto.Currently this dish is not in the menu, but will be offered in the upcoming Valentine's Day dinner menu. The lamb is juicy and not too gamey in taste. The veal jus that is served with it has a chocolatey taste, while the mint pesto has a garlicky taste which I like very much considering that I do not like mint much. The potato has been mashed and mixed with other seasonings and cheese before baking. It tastes creamy and soft.Southend Pasta ($22++)Homemade tomato sauce, tagliatelle, own chorizo sausages, fennel, tomatoes, basil, chilli & loads of parmesan. It is not too spicy despite having chilli in it. But the taste of the chorizo sausages is a bit too strong for me.Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake ($12++)It is served with strawberry, blueberries and cranberry cream. The cheesecake is creamy and does not taste too sweet. The cranberry cream is fruity sweet with bits of fruits in it, which adds another taste to the simple looking cake.Miss D's Pecan Pie ($12++)Comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.Filled with huge pieces of pecan nuts, it is nutty and not too sweet. But the crust is quite hard to cut through with a fork.Overall the dishes are great and huge in servings. Best for people who come in groups and can share the huge servings with all. Further more, it is located in such centralised location which should be easy for most to go.

The baja cobb's salad is for those who wants a hearty salad. It's full of greens but yet the cajun spiced chicken was a sinfully good addition to the otherwise too healthy salad. Lightly tossed in red wine vinaigrette, it is lightly acidic in taste but was well balanced out with the abundance of olives, corns and greens. The superfood salad is for the full time vegetables lover. Loaded with lots of greens, the serving portions here at Seasons don't seem to scrimp any bit so the salad can just be your main course anytime! The downside is that the vegetables tasted a bit too raw so it can be a little hard to finish the whole serving on your own.Cajun blacken fish taco is made with haddock, avocado mayonnaise, pickled onions, crispy shallots and cotija cheese sitting beautifully on a tortilla chip. The taco was an explosion of flavors in the mouth with the sweetness of the fish which was elevated by the other toppings with the crunchiness of the chip. It's a classic Mexican dish that is not so common in Singapore so I would recommend you to try this here!My favorite dish of the night would be the pan seared foie gras! It is served on a thick toast with chocolate ganache, accompanied by bacon jam, caramelized bananas, tomatoes & granola crumbs. Doesn't that sound interesting already? Surely, the foie gras itself wasn't that outstanding but I enjoyed the dish as the combination of the flavors was very unique. Who would have thought that chocolate, bacon jam & foie gras would go so well together? How can you miss out on fried chicken in an American restaurant? The skin was crispy but I thought it was overly battered! Chicken size was a little small so it became a little dry. What was delightful is the homemade ketchup served with it. It is tangy and went very well with the fried food. Homemade items just makes the entire dish stand out more, even if it's just a sauce as it portrays the chef's effort in the dish.Season's bistro rendition of meatloaf is ground pork meat mixed with cornmeal and seasonings, on a bed of spinach and mashed potato with gravy. While the taste wasn't that much to my liking (acquired taste I guess!), I thought the mash was very smooth and creamy! The addition of some maple bacon on top was nice too, as the bacon was sweet and crispy! The hit amongst the group was definitely the Seasons Cheese Burger! Just look at the homemade beef patty - so thick and juicy!!! Toppings include the classic burger selections like caramelized onions, cheese, bacon and mushrooms. The patty really make or break the burger and I'm so happy to find out that Seasons scored with theirs! It's not fully cooked so there will be plenty of meat juice as you sink your teeth into the burger! We were also pleasantly surprised when we were served with their Valentine's Day special - Lamb rack. It comes with some sautéed mushrooms, asparagus (always a good side!) and meat sauce. The cook on the lamb was decently executed, as it was tender and did not have the gamey smell to it. Last but not least, we also tried the southend pasta which was made of tagliatelle, chorizo sausages and homemade tomato sauce. This dish was disappointing as the pasta was clearly overcooked, and the sauce was too light for a tomato based dish.We ended our meal with a maple pumpkin cheescake and pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. While the maple pumpkin cheesecake was slightly too dense on the palate, the berries cream at the side did help to lighten it. Pecan pie was made from whole pecans and served with a scoop of ice cream - great for the sweet tooth and it was nice to end the meal on a sweet note!
