openrice nom's cafe week
Organised by NOM’S, Café Week 2015 is all about celebrating our local café culture. Featuring some of the top 13 cafés in Singapore, each participating café is given a challenge – to delight you with new creations over two weekends: 10 to 13 Dec and 17 to 20 Dec. Brunch, Tea and Dinner menus are available at $25, $15 and $35 respectively. Reservations for Café Week now open!

1. Strangers' Reunion

strangers' reunion cafe week dinner
Strong café vibes aside, Strangers' Reunion serves a well-executed dinner set featuring three new dishes that were created just for Café Week. Comprising an Inside Out Scotch Egg, Buttermilk Waffle with Yoghurt-Marinated Kashmiri Fried Chicken and Vodka Crepe Suzette, each new dish carries its weight in terms of flavour, texture and plating. Served with vanilla bean ice cream, the Vodka Crepe Suzette stands to be the most memorable dish of your meal. Served with a vodka flambé, the chef set our dessert on fire – literally – before extinguishing the flame with a shot of espresso made from their Chakra seasonal blend. $35 nett Strangers' Reunion, 37 Kampong Bahru Road, Singapore 169356

2. The BetterField

the betterfield cafe week dinner
If you have yet to try The BetterField's regular menu, book a slot for their three-course dinner created exclusively for Café Week. The Salmon Tartare is a rather neat line up of sashimi grade salmon in white sauce, capers, gherkins, tomato salsa and topped with spinach. Also, the light drizzle of truffle oil on the plate does well to complement and not overpower the starter. The main event, Hickory Spiced Ribeye, is a more piquant version of the café’s signature ribeye dish. Chef Shaun marinates the ribeye with cajun and smokes it with hickory before serving with a heavenly bed of chunky mashed potatoes, which are cooked with duck fat and a secret spice blend. To end, take your pick between an indulgent Banana Chocolate Cake and their dessert of the day. $35 nett The BetterField's, 261 Waterloo Street #01-23, Singapore 180261

3. Privé Café

After sunset, Privé Café goes from casual-breezy to restaurant-romantic with a harbour view under the twinkling stars. From their three-course dinner menu, choose between a Boston Clam Chowder served in a squid ink bread bowl with bacon and Idaho potatoes or a Charred Broccoli Salad with a honey garlic dressing. For mains, your options include Duck Leg Cassoulet and Linguine Aglio Olio, which will please any pasta lover who loves their al dente and it comes tossed with Chilean scallops, sundried tomatoes and smoked bacon. Finish off with a Sticky Date Pudding or the rich Chocolate Posset with summer berry coulis and pistachio biscotti. $35 nett Privé Café, Marina at Keppel Bay, 2 Keppel Bay Vista, Singapore 098382

4. Well Dressed Salad Bar & Café

Vegetarians aren’t left out of the upcoming Café Week action. Located below her family’s Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown, Well Dressed Salad Bar & Café, owned by Zenna Ho, sports the tagline – “Meatless doesn’t mean Tasteless”, a true reflection on the food they serve. The deconstructed satay burger main, named Tempehtion Island, is a medley of rice cakes, archar, vegan chicken seasoned in a moreish satay marinade, complete with tempeh skewers. Alongside, you get a creamy Carrot Soup, as well as an option between a Raw Chocolate Molten Lava Cake and a Raw Carrot Cake for dessert. $35 nett Well Dressed Salad Bar & Café, 282 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058831

5. The Holqa Café

the holqa cafe week dinner
Holqa means ‘link’ in Maltese and the owners hope to bring people together through the food that they serve. Aside from the café’s signature starter of both SNS-ji chicken wings and Breaded Shitake Mushrooms, diners can choose between two mains and two desserts - White Truffle Shrooms Risotto or Braised Asian Pulled Pork Pasta; Tiramisu or Earl Grey Cheesecake. We particularly enjoyed the Braised Asian Pulled Pork Pasta for its delicious Asian-Western fusion flavours while the White Truffle Shrooms Risotto was cooked just perfectly. For desserts, we recommend going straight for the Tiramisu. $35 nett The Holqa Café, 37 East Coast Road, Singapore 428755

6. Group Therapy

group therapy cafe week dinner
Group Therapy thrives mainly amongst the brunch crowd so Café Week is essentially a creative playground for its chefs, giving them a break from making yet another order of their all-famous eggs benedict. Available at both outlets, the three-course dinner menu starts with a tangy Crab & Asparagus Salad with poached asparagus. Just before sinking into their signature Sticky Toffee Pudding, exclusive mains include a vegetarian option of Pumpkin & Squid Ink Gnocchi, Pan-fried Chicken Breast accompanied well with hazelnut pesto and corn fritter or a minced-pork Stuffed Squid with Reduced Tomato Sauce. $35 nett Group Therapy @ Duxton, 49 Duxton Road #02-01, Singapore 089513 and Group Therapy @ Katong V, 30 East Coast Road #01-11, Singapore 428751

7. Curious Palette

curious palette cafe week dinner
In contrast to sister café Strangers’ Reunion, Curious Palette presents more modern plates, with a focus drawn towards their mains like beef cheek with espresso sauce and of course, coffee. Come nightfall, the café retains its cosy ambience with a decent crowd even on weekday nights. For Café Week, their dinner menu consists of a Cherry Tomatoes & Baby Mozzarella Salad with a cashew pesto, followed by a beef or vegetarian main and then a rich dessert they call Curious Chocolate. The Prosciutto Wrapped 36-Hour Oyster Blade with foie gras croutons and celeriac mash comes with a red wine demi-glace, whilst the Confit Byaldi – a variation of the traditional French dish ratatouille – will please both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, especially with the inclusion of addictive parmesan chips. $35 nett Curious Palette, 64 Prinsep Street, Singapore 188667

8. OMB

omb cafe week dinner
Over at bacon lovers’ heaven OMB, the dinner menu consists of the NPH Platter, Cheesy Beef Bacon Pasta and Jekyll & Hyde with Bacon Ice Cream. Named after Neil Patrick Harris, the NPH Platter delights with its flavourful combination of wine infused smoked duck, prawn and asparagus wrapped in bacon – pity we couldn’t taste the wine though. Another concoction that went down surprisingly well was their addictive Bacon Ice Cream, where crunchy bacon bits complemented the rich creaminess of the bacon ice cream perfectly. $35 nett OMB, 7 Dunlop Street, Singapore 209337 See also: Where You Have Breakfast for Dinner Newly Opened Restaurants & Cafés to check out
