Club Meatballs: Laudable Tapas, Snazzy Interiors
2015-07-08
As a collaboration with BW furniture, Club Meatballs presents a seamless amalgamation of menu and interiors – mellow lighting and modern, designer furniture coupled with a good selection of sharing tapas (and of course, meatballs) set the mood for a casual and fun night out.

Under the saucy header of “Pimp my Balls” lies the restaurant’s signature item – customizable, no less. Choose from 5 different types of meatballs, plus a variety of sides and toppings such as Creamy Mash Potatoes and Classic Homemade Pesto. We had the Wagyu Beef Meatballs with Parmesan Risotto & Truffle Mushroom ($14). With popular ingredients like Wagyu, parmesan and truffle, the dish was certainly well-received that night. However, be assured that it did well not only because of these hyped components; its execution was admirable as well. The resulting bowl was rich and intense, but favourably so.
club meatballs grilled squid
To balance out the meatballs, we suggest going for the Grilled Squid with Smoked Eggplant, Pipirrana, and Black Ink Vinaigrette ($17). A lovely, smoky flavour comes through the springy squid as your work your way through it, making it a personal favourite for the session.
club meatballs octopus pulled pork tapa
The Grilled Octopus with Sous Vide Pork Jaw on Smashed Vegetables ($23) is another option for a contrasting palate. Even though I preferred the squid, this tapa also shines with its ingenious combination of meat, seafood, and vegetables.

Desserts, as usual, are a must, and so we ended with some Bombetas de Chocolate ($12). At first glance, they reminded me of Xiao Long Baos. These dumplings have a crisp exterior of filo pastry and molten insides of orange chocolate, inspired by the orange mocha served in house. A word of caution: Pop one in only when they’ve cooled or you’ll be scalding your tongue and wasting one of these carefully crafted baits.
