The brunch savvy crowd in Singapore may have had one too many English breakfast sets to get revved up over another. But for vegans who don’t eat scrambled eggs, bacon or hunky sausages, this very platter at Well Dressed Salad Bar & Caféwill matter.
Available all day on Saturdays and Sundays, the Veganlicious Weekend Brunch ($16.50, pictured) is a six-pack wonder comprising two slices of waffle toast that has been slathered with just enough coconut and truffle oil; creamy avocado dressed with lemon, salt and pepper; herbed baby Portobello mushrooms; sautéed tomatoes; vegan soy sausages and the café-favourite, housemade vegan feta cheese.
For the uninitiated, you may be wondering: Did the soy-based sausages and tofu cheese taste weird? My answer: No. Compared to the real deal, they were less dense with a bit more texture but definitely did not taste bad.
A choice between two soups – Broccoli and Curried Pumpkin – and a fresh fruit juice are also included to complete the set.
More Thirst Quenchers
While you can get the usual mocha, latte and flat whites here, we recommend going for Mr Yin & Mrs Yang ($6), where iced coffee meets sweet milk tea or a refreshing Lychee Mint Spritzer ($5.50) blended with real lychee. Instead of soda, they use the less fizzy Perrier sparkling water, which contains smaller bubbles and thus aids in digestion.
There are also smoothies and “Wellness mixes” if you’re in need to cure that hangover, boost your immune system or soothe a tummy upset.
Moreish Returns
If you do make a return visit (without a doubt, we think you will), make sure you give their creamy wasabi lime-dressed salad, the Well Dressed Green Goddess ($9.50), a try. For something more substantial, hit up their signature tofu burger, Tofully Yours ($12.90, pictured), which comes with a side of sweet potato chips – an incredibly moreish delight.
Settle that dessert craving with some vegan bakes, made personally by the owner herself. A popular pick amongst customers is the eggless and dairy-free Matcha Green Tea Cake ($3.50 per slice), which is moist and sweet enough to balance off bitterness from the matcha powder.
