Emerging from the basement of TANGS Orchard to the ground levels of Club Street, hot dog stand The Mustard Incident has undergone an expansion to become The Rockin’ Diner – a casual 40-seater diner and bar with a fuller menu of American grub and a vast selection of imported international beers to boot.
Besides generously portioned hot dogs coined in punny names like Duck-Can-Fit and Green Lambton, owner Kelly’s belief in keeping portions in true over-indulging American sizes follows through to the rest of his menu.
Meat and cheese run parallel to most dishes, with one or the other present in heavy amounts. Their signature sandwich, Philadelphia Cheese Steak ($15.99), mashes both for a sinful meal; the filleted steak comes covered in caramalised onions, sautéed peppers and three cheeses on ciabatta bread that is notably soft and easy to chew despite its tough-looking exterior.
For the same price, you can also get a more carb-heavy yet equally meaty and cheesy pick – Little Italy’s Killa’ Lasagne ($15.99; pictured left). What sets this lasagna apart from others that we have tried is the punch of flavour given by layers of The Mustard Incident’s best-selling bean-less chilli, which you can also enjoy as a side.
To add even more to the table, try range of fries, available in variations like chilli cheese, spam, sweet potato and even bacon.
And for desserts, we wouldn't leave without having their Nutella-misu ($6.99) – tiramisu blessed with velvety layers of rich Nutella. Just remember to make an extra trip to the gym that week.
