Mention ‘riverboat dining’ and you might first think of the scatter of tongkangs in Clarke Quay. Here’s where we introduce you to Singapore’s best kept sea-cret – Stewords Riverboat, docked and anchored at Marina South Pier, with Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill and Wood & Steel Gastrobar on board this hidden gem.
If this three-level riverboat seems the slightest bit familiar to you, that’s because it used to be that iconic A&W Boathouse at Sentosa back in the 90s.
Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill
Your first stop on deck – Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill, or ‘fajita heaven’ as we’d like to call it. Past heavy wooden doors, its cozy interior is very much influenced by a western steakhouse with dark woods, a brick wall out front and booth seats right by the windows.
What dominates the menu is a smorgasbord of Texas-Mexican grub like steaks, ribs, fajitas, burger and tacos. Signatures to start you off include Chicken Chimichangas ($11) and Turkey Quesadillas ($11), which comes stuffed with cheese and smoked turkey slices brushed with BBQ sauce.
Sizzling skillets of fajitas sent to your table neighbours will tempt you. Our advice? Cave in and order that – the half-pound to share with your dining partner, the full for larger parties.
Your choices of meats include the Original Skirt Steak ($32 for half a pound, $60 for full pound - pictured), Spicy Chicken ($28 for half a pound, $52 for full pound) and Wagyu with Portobello ($45 for half a pound, $83 for full pound). It also comes with flour tortillas and a condiment set of sour cream, guacamole, cheese and pico de gallo.
The restaurant takes absolute pride in serving up a mean plate of Santa Fe BBQ Baby Back Ribs ($24 for half rack, $32 for full rack). As expected, the meat slips off the bone easily and is tender with every chew. Other highlights under their main course section include the Tex-Mex Grilled Chicken ($26), Fillet Mignon ($38) and Ribeye Steak ($34).
To quench your thirst, we recommend getting their Mango Coconut Yoghurt Smoothie ($11) for creamy indulgence; or choose from their range of six Frozen Magaritas ($10 - $50), which you can order in a glass, mug or pitcher to share.
Event Space & Rooftop Bar
Need to rent a space for your company event or wedding party even? Consider their 120-seater private function hall on the upper deck, complete with a stage, sound system and AV equipment if needed.
And the newest addition to Stewords Riverboat, Wood & Steel is a rooftop gastro bar with the city sparkling in its backdrop – that means getting a full view of the fireworks every National Day and New Year’s Eve!
