Will visit this branch usually after visiting the Kinokuniya. Decided to try something different instead of ordering the usual spicy la mian & the watercress honey drink.Was too hungry to go home for dinner. And settled for the double boiled chicken soup. The soup has too much msg but the chicken meat is tender. Needed a dessert after the dinner and ordered the mango pudding. The Jian Bao at Crystal Jade is quite unique. I have never tasted anything like that before. It's almost like a Xiao long bao in a pau skin with the pork filling almost identical to the Xiao long bao filling with juice and everything, it's even served with vinegar and ginger just like a Xiao long bao. Somehow I like to eat Chinese-style La Mian, it was plain but tasty to eat. We finally decided to come this reataurant to have our dinner, Crystal Jade La Mian and Xiao Long Bao located at Ngee Ann City. The queue length was acceptable.Started with a Menu, a wide range of food to be chosen. We were served by a polite staff. The soup of the La Mian was excellent and not oily. Personally I like the spicy La Mian. It has been a long time since I visited Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao. Since we were in the vicinity we decided to try our luck to see if we could get our seats without waiting too long on a Sat evening.Our favourite dish was the Xiao Long Bao, but to our disappointment, it is now only 5 small pcs for $5. Luckily it was still nice like last time.I ordered the Pork Chop La Mian which used to be one of my favourites, & was excited that we could choose the type of noodles we want now. So I asked for the "dao xiao mian" (刀削面). When my food finally came, they gave me the wrong type of noodles & so I was told to wait for the chef to re-cook, but I could "eat the pork chop 1st". By the time the correct noodles was served my pork chop had already turned cold & harden. :( What's more my pork chop serving was a miserable plate of 3 thin slices of pork. But we saw the customers next to us with the same food but big generous portion of the pork chop.:( My noodles were oso a bit tough & not as Q or chewy as I imagined.We also ordered the Shandong Pancake to share ($2.80++), which is actually like Roti Prata, but with spring onion diced & mixed into the pancake. Nice & crispy! Good choice this time. :)The standard of this restaurant seems to have dropped somewhat, or maybe it is inconsistent now, what more with slightly higher prices & smaller servings.
