Went to BlackBall at Bugis+ with bf to satisfy my craving for Taiwanese desserts. But then we got a bit lost in deciding what to order. What I like about BlackBall is that here we can customize the dessert: choose the temperature (hot, warm, cold, or icy), the base and the topping(s). Customization is the best way when you can't pick anything from the menu (not saying their menus are not interesting, I just couldn't come up with any decision).We chose cold grass jelly base and added pearls (duh!), aiyu jelly and matcha balls as toppings. Creamer is also provided for those who want to make the dessert creamier. It was refreshing, and the portion was enough for 2. I have tried blackball once and i really like it alot! this time round i went back but order less toppings than before. I only order grass jelly and pearl as the topping as i was feeling budget and it still taste very good to me it feels a bit like "eating" bubble tea instead of drinking it. the grass jelly is smooth and soft. pearl is very chewy and sweet. luckily it is not those pearl which is tasteless. The choice for me was obvious, especially the summer weather here. First one from left, Grass Jelly with Fresh Milk was mine, $4.50. We bought the normal one, but we didn't get the crushed ice one! By accident. Anyway. We ate the normal one but its still as awesome, the grass jelly was more so its shook. I really love their taro ball, and the pearl was so soft and chewy. The sweet potato strip was nice but I was just okay with it as its a little sweet but I like the texture when I'm chewing it. I had the blackball signature served cold, which contains ingredient such as grass jelly, pearl, yam and sweet potato. The texture of the balls was not so chewy as compared to the one I had in Taiwan and it is certainly overrated as it cost $5. I ordered the blackball promotion at $11.90 for 2 signature blackballs and 1 drink (We choose a tea with lemon in it, but i can't remember the name of it) as our supper. Well, I will not recommend you to go around 9 plus pm to order this drink as the queue is really long! The assistants themselves mixed up the customers' order too. As for the lemon tea drink, it was petty sour. I can't really stand the taste of it. I gave up drinking in the end. The signature was nice, but honestly, i didn't find the creamer make any different to it. Tried BlackBall from the first time at Bugis +. It is located at one corner and there are seats outside and in the store. I went on a saturday evening and it was packed, full house. We will have to stand and wait for a while before we get seats. It is free sitting, so you will have to look out for people who are finishing their food, and wait beside them. The shop is originated from Taiwan and is said to be the NO 1. Grass jelly dessert there. The menu.You could request from the staff that you would like a copy of the menu. My groups of friends were "blocking the counter" while looking at the menu when the staff passed us a copy of the menu so that we could go back to our seats to take a look, decide before ordering. Their menu have pictures and detailed descriptions of their desserts. They sell alot of desserts which includes bubble tea as well. We ordered their blackball signature to try! Blackball is famous for their silky grass jelly with toppings. I wasn't going to eat immediately so i opted for the cold one; would recommend getting the one with ice if you are eating on the spot. I tried a few times at the Bugis + outlet and usually this outlet is crowded during peak hours and it may take a while to find seats. This dessert seems to be from Taiwan. What I am attracted is the combination in the dessert. When you order, you have the choice of choosing it hot, very hot, icy cold or cold. I usually will like to have it hot. What is inside this blackball that makes it so tasty? It comprises of sweet potatoes, taro balls, red beans topped with grass jelly and comes with additional milk if you would like to add it in. I like it with milk. Although, they are simple ingredients they are all high in nutritious value if you realize.
