The zhi char stall in located in Swee Sian Yuan Eating House, which is just across from the Singapore's most well known lottery 7-11 store (because the 7-11 got one of the most number of winners in TOTO lottery in Singapore). The zhi char stall is taken over by the current owner from last November, who is also a wholesale seafood supplier. Currently the stall was having promotion for its crabs with 2 pieces (each weighing about 400 to 450 grams) at $38.80.Lala Beehoon with superior broth 上汤啦啦米粉 ($20/ large)The soup was full of flavours. Remember to eat it fast because the bee hoon will soak up the stock very fast.Crab with bee hoon 螃蟹焖米粉 (粗)Seasonal price 时价The stock used in this dish was made by cooking the crab in stock for long hours. One could really taste the seafood flavour in the soup.Threadfin Fish Head 顺风午鱼头 (招牌蒸)($68)Seasonal price 时价I was surprised by the huge size of the fish head. One cannot imagine how big the whole fish must be like. The fish was meaty and juicy. The soup was slightly sour. Mixed it with the spicy chilli paste on top of the fish head, it gave a kind of tom yam like taste.Salted egg crabs 咸蛋螃蟹Seasonal price 时价2 Female crabs with lots of roe was used in this dish. Rich creamy sauce which made one wishing for some bread to dip with.Ayam kalasan (Not in menu) ($18/ half chicken)This dish was different from Ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken) as the chicken was boiled before frying. It gave the meat a more tender and moist texture.Green Dragon Vegetable 青龙菜 ($10/ small)This vegetable was also known as Chives and could be found growing in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. The vegetable had a kind of unique sweetness.Salted Chicken 盐鸡 (菜园鸡) ($18/ half chicken)Cooked with Chinese Angelica root (Dang Gui), the chicken was very tender and flavourful, soaking up the flavours of herbs without the bitterness.Salted egg prawns 咸蛋虾 ($16/ small)Personally I like this version than the crab's version, as the sauce was thicker and rich here. The thick sauce coated the peeled prawns evenly. It was so well fried than one had no problem having the crunchy crispy tail shell part.Overall the food was not bad. Way better than the previous zhi char stall, whose standard was not consistent. continue reading
