It was really a busy afternoon when I happen to be craving for some nice yummy Western food but also can't avoid the long queue outside this popular Western food restaurant.  Took around 20 minutes to wait before the waitress brought me inside the restaurant to settle down to order food.  First time trying their grilled fish with herb, which really surprise me on the nice taste and quality.  Fish meat is very soft and fresh, which the herb brown sauce goes really well with it, which is abit spicy and quite peppery in taste.  Flavour baked potato and greed salad goes very well with this main course.  For only $8.50 per serving, is value for money.  Restaurant was quite noisy and squeezy, but service was quite friendly. continue reading

This outlet at city square mall is quite small, so we dispatched an earlier group of people to "guarantee" the seats for our group of 14 pax. They were in the queue by 11.30 am as reservations are not taken here. Due to the constraints of the seating spaces available, we were split into two tables but placed next to each other, so that's fine for us. By 12 noon, there's already quite a long queue outside. Most of us have dined at Astons before (there's many outlets now spread throughout Singapore) so we came to a decision on our choices pretty quickly. For me, I was unfortunately nursing a sore throat and had to avoid ordering too much fried stuff. Hence my choice of the grilled fish. Potato salad has always been one of my favorite sides, thus it's not to be missed today as well hehe. The potato salad was as good as expected. The grilled dory fish was ok, liberally showered with herbs. The sauce that came with it tasted like a slightly concentrated campbell's mushroom soup but it went rather well with the fish. Well, at least it seemed healthier than mayonnaise as an accompaniment to the fish I loved the macaroni & cheese, for a generous amount of the tasty cheese sauce was given. All-in-all, a very satisfactory meal! - Grilled Fish with Herb with macaroni & cheese, potato salad ($9.50)My hubby ordered the chicken & sausage combo. For the chicken, we chose the hickory bbq. At first, he thought it was breast meat when he cut through the chicken due to its appearance. However, it is thigh meat, just that certain parts of the chicken was slightly drier. Other diners' chicken chops appeared juicier. Oh well, perhaps it's just this particular piece. Generally, the chicken was still well-grilled with a bbq taste and tasty. The sausages fared much better. They were very succulent and brushed with a hint of a tasty bbq-sauce on the skin. Good! As for the pasta salad, it was a bit on the bland side, with some olive oil and herbs. Wedges were nice & crispy - cannot really go wrong with that.- Chicken & Sausage with pasta salad, potato wedges ($13.50)Service was a little slow at first when we requested for top-ups of the iced water ordered (30 cents per cup) but it picked up after that. Subsequent service was prompt and friendly. We were seated close to the main entrance of city square mall, so there were some wafts of outside air passing through. So, try to get a seat further in if you can. continue reading

We were running some errands around the vicinity and decided to have a quick fix at Astons to satisfy the husband’s craving for affordable quality steak. As usual, he ordered the Prime Ribeye Extra Cut ($18.50+) with macaroni cheese and mashed potatoes. The beef was grilled to perfection and retained its natural juices and flavour. The husband spared no time to chomp down this whooping 300g of fat juicy meat. The creamy yet not too overpowering macaroni cheese was one of the recommended sides to have The Grilled Fish with Herb ($8.50+) tasted pretty mild and had a light buttery texture. Good for those health conscious folks out there who would like a satisfying dose of quality protein without the extra laden fats. Truly, Astons lived up to its name in providing quality yet value for money meals anytime of the day! continue reading

This is a prime sirloin steak from Astons ($11.90). It comes with any 2 sides of your choice, from the list of Cold or Hot side dishes. These include coleslaw, mash potato salad, rice, corn on the cob, vegetables, onion rings etc. I ordered the coleslaw and the French Fries. Overall the dish was alright, the meat was a little bit too chewy but pretty decent for the price i paid. The fries were the best part of the meal and the serving was generous.Do note that water costs 30 cents here, so don't order if you aren't wiling to pay for a glass. And the queue is quite long. continue reading

So I gave this place another try for the food, it seems like nothing can go wrong when you order fried stuff. The fried chicken was decent. Crispy, tender chicken meat, not too oily and not dry. There's really nothing to complain. The potato salad is still as awesome and the fries were crispy. Yummy! Service is still as unattentive as usual, they really need to train the youngsters well.... continue reading
