My friend's mum is here for a vacation, so last night, they invited me for dinner. Since they were in Novena, I suggested that we have dinner at Barcelo's. The last time I dined here was 2 years ago and I remembered how their chicken was tender, spicy. They also had sauces which would make smoke come out of your ears (figuratively, of course!)So, I ordered 1/4 chicken which was mildly spicy. For only $15, you also get one side dish and a drink. I had potatoes and mushroom. The chicken was just average. It wasn't as flavourful as I thought it would be. The potatoes were nice, but the mushrooms tasted a but burnt.Overall, an average dining experience.

On Wednesday, I decided to try Barcelos with my colleagues as is near my workplaceThe FoodI ordered the 1/4 chicken meal combo set with 1 side dishes (spicy wedges) and free flow of soft drink. The menu have 4 different kind of spice level- Tangy Lemon, Mild Peri, Veri Peri & Supa Peri. Since I am a chilli lover hence I choose the Super Peri sauce. The ServiceEven though inside is crowded during lunch hour, my colleagues and I were ushered into the restaurant after waiting for a short while and they immediately responded whenever we have any requirements like pouring the ice water for usThe AmbienceAlthough inside is small and crowded but is a nice and suitable place for a quick & relaxing lunchThe PriceReasonably priced at $14.95 with 1 side dish and free flow of soft drink. OverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this restaurant!

Review on Barcelos @ Square 2Brought my boyfriend here for his advance birthday lunch. Good for people who loves chicken!Bought the groupon voucher and I say, it's damn worth it! However, I got lost getting to this place. When you exit to Novena Square, look out for Han's Cafe. Barcelos is in another building. Look out for Han's cafe, exit the building and you'll be in Square 2.ServiceGreeted when entering the premises.Just mentioned how many pax you have and they'll bring you to your table.Service was prompt and waitresses was attentive and friendly.Opening Hours10am – 9pm (Daily)Prices $$You can find the prices of the menu here (http://www.barcelos.com.sg/our-menu.php)But personally, I find it okay for a restaurant.I ordered chicken wrap, Twin Mixed Skewers & ala carte chicken soup & sauteed potato with mushrooms.The chicken wrap was good - similar to kebab. Enjoyed it very much. As for the skewers, the beef was a tad tough so I had to chew more to make it soft but the rest are fine. When the chicken soup was served, I was shocked to see how HUGE the size of the bowl is. That's an extra bonus for Barcelos! And not forgetting the sauteed potato with mushrooms. That, is a MUST MUST ORDER! Surprisingly good! However, its very oily and you'll probably be put off if you're keeping your weight in-check when you see the sea of oil below the bowl.RatingI would give this 4/5. Had a great dining experience despite the bad lighting - if you wish to take pictures. Spotlight was really bad. Either that, or it wasn't photogenic day for me Other varietiesI had supa peri for my chicken and it was awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome!Do prepare your choice of spicyness (Tangy Lemon - Lemon flavoured with herbs; Mild Peri - The first step on to the heat; Veri Peri - The heat just got hotter!; Supa Peri - Handle with care!!!) & your sides for your meal

But the side dishes were disappointing, they were overcooked and poorly seasoned.We had:1) Supa Peri Peri Half Chicken Meal ($21.90) with 2 side dishes. The chicken was unexpectedly hot, having been coated liberally with the supa peri sauce. This resulted in a slow burning peppery heat. Chicken was juicy and tender, well flavoured2) Sauteed Potato & Mushrooms - too salty, and this should have been called "mostly potatoes and 3 mushrooms", there were only 3 puny white button mushroom slices3) Grilled Corn on the Cob - over-grilled and dry

I went with my girlfriend to barcelos to have their grilled chicken. I was feeling kind of hungry so I ordered myself half a chicken with wedges and potato. The chicken was really good, grilled perfectly. It was still tender and juicy on the inside. You can taste a mild tinge of spices that they marinated the chicken with I supposed. the price was rather reasonable. Quite satisfied.
