My dad bought some bak kwa recently. (Bak kwa are popular salty-sweet dried meat products, similar to jerky, especially during the CNY period) He bought two variations, the coin shaped ones and the standard squarish ones. The coin shaped bak kwa aka Golden Coins are a little charred at the sides which i like. They are also quite chewy and so it allows you to savour it. I think what i like about the golden coins, better than the squarish ones is that it seems to be more chewable. Like its not diff

I think what i like about the golden coins, better than the squarish ones is that it seems to be more chewable. Like its not difficult to break it down to smaller pieces. I think its cause its made up of more fats and so its also juicier.

My family suddenly felt like having bak kwa so we decided to get a packet of mini bak kwa from bee chang hiang. Although it is not of the freshest quality, it is quite interesting how they packet it into mini servings. The pieces of bak kwa were still very fragrant and oily like the normal ones. The meat was not too tough too, although we left the packets in the fridge. There are quite a lot of mini packets inside, enough to go around for the entire family.

Happy Chinese New Year to Everyone! What are your favourite CNY must-have goodies? For me, its Bak Kwa (Sliced Pork)! I came across Bee Cheng Hiang's store at Jurong Point and saw that the Q was quite short, hence decided to get 1 kg of Bak Kwa! Surprisingly, the queue this year was shorter compared to last year. There were a number of choices such as the Coin shaped (choice of pork or chicken)and the typical Square ones. I bought the square ones. I still prefer Bee Cheng hiang's Bak Kwa compa

Hope that they will maintain their standard!
