Introduction
Dian Xiao Er originates from the traditional way of calling waiter “Xiao Er” in a teahouse, who is the brainchild of combining herbs with roast duck meat. It symbolizes a pit-stop for travellers (customers) to rest and replenish their energy fully before setting off to continue their hectic journeys again. The ambience at Dian Xiao Er is thus intentionally planned to be rustic and raw, providing a unique inn-dining experience with the careful selection of materials. This complements the freshness of our Signature Herbal Roast Ducks, prepared and roasted in the display kitchen daily. Customers can expect to experience a choice of dining ambience varying from dining inside a traditional Chinese courtyard to dining inside a rustic timber shed at the foot of a stone cliff. Dian Xiao Er not only provides to the travellers a place of warmth, satisfaction and happiness as they indulge in the delectable dishes, it is also a place for them to interact and build relationships with one another. Dian Xiao Er also symbolizes an element of blessing and fellowship as everyone is brought together in Dian Xiao Er over a hearty meal. continue reading

Dian Xiao Er has been my favourite restaurant since years back when I first explored here with my boyfriend. After which, I brought my family, my uncles and aunties, and even my friends to other outlets of Dian Xiao Er to enjoy their awesome food during birthdays. Since then, Dian Xiao Er has never failed me on their food and service and I'm very impressed even up till now.Since we have patronized countless times here, a list of must-order items are always in mind already even though at some times, we will try on new ones in their menu. The must-order items are Ten Wonder Duck, Golden Tofu and Prawn Ball with Mayo, which is also recommended by myself to all.Ten Wonder Duck - RecommendedThey actually have other ducks that is prepared with different ingredients or maybe different methods of cooking but we got hooked with Ten Wonder Duck since the first time when their service staff recommended to us. First the duck meat is tender and a little chewy. And you must really have the sauce underneath to drizzle on your bowl of rice. It is awesome. This way really enhance your appetite. The sauce is not very salty but the herbal taste is just right. Not too strong which sometimes you will resist it. Also dip the duck meat with the sauce too. With every bite, you can feel the sauce bursting from the meat. That shows the meat absorb the sauce real fast. For healthy eating, maybe you can don't take the duck skin. I find it a little fatty but you can have it as a whole if you can find a thinner piece of duck skin.Golden Tofu - RecommendedWhy do I love this is because of the crispy skin on the outside and the tasty fillings on the inside. You may think it is just a normal fried tofu that is bland but this isn't at all. I can taste a mix of fish and tofu in it. I guess that's what makes it so nice, tasty and soft. But the sauce on that day is quite salty. And I guess is because of ingredients price up, the broccoli were given lesser than before. But nevertheless, it doesn't stop me from having it. The taste has win my heart.Prawn Ball with Mayo - RecommendedBecause of my love for prawns and especially fried ones, so that is the reason I recommended this even if there are other choices of prawns available. The prawn balls are so crispy and the prawns are fresh too. I must say that I have a thing for prawns and whether fresh or not, they can't escape my expert taste bud. But I do hope that the mayo can be lesser or maybe put it in a sauce plate and if the customers want to dip with it, they can do so or vice versa. Actually I do want to taste the prawn balls without the mayo. I can confirm it will be very nice. Anyway, it depends on individual preference. After all, both versions are okay for me.Baby Kai LanI have got not much to comment for this because we want to balance up our meal with a plate of vegetables. But one thing is that the vegetables are confirmed fresh as it is crunchy with a twist of lime to enhance the taste slightly. Not forgetting, they have Healthier Choice logo on some dishes so keep a lookout if you wanna have a healthy meal. I think some dishes in Tofu and Vegetable category have the logo. That is very obvious for all of us under the Food Pyramid. Order a bowl of rice or try their fried rice menu which is delicious too. I tried that before. Do try it and also bring any friends that is visiting Singapore to Dian Xiao Er too. continue reading

Well went to this restaurant last month during my mom's birthday. There was some confusion with the table allocation and we ended up being seated very late. I have been to Dian Xiao Er other outlets, so far the one that has given me very good impression on service and nice food is at Tampines. Anyway there is going to be a new outlet in Tiong Bahru Plaza. Very near to my place, hopefully will be as good as the one in Tampines. continue reading

When you are in VivoCity and have a craving for fine Chinese food don't look any further than Dian Xiao Er. The food we had was very good even the braised lettuce dish which seemed to be too simple to be good is very very good. The herbal duck is the restaurant's specialty but the other dishes deserve their own credit. Please read my full review at http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/05/dian-xiao-er-vivo-city.html continue reading

The only time i eat Chinese food is when i eat chicken rice, Chinese mixed vegetable rice and maybe beef noodles... else i would not really eat it...My friends and i decided to head there to celebrate my friends birthday. i have never been a great fan of Chinese food because i simply am not used to the taste and some things i cant eat...The place is a very cozy joint... small tables and small stools... not very comfortable for a big guy but anyways it doesn't matter cause i was quite excited about trying out the new food that i was going to taste but with caution...We ordered braised duck (a first for me), Claypot frog legs (also a first for me) and we ordered claypot beancurd, spinach with some gravy and some sweet and sour pork... each served with rice...I have got to say, that the sweet and sour pork was quite good... the spinach was healthy... fantastic... and then the bean curd.. really soft served with egg... i liked it...Then the Taste buds were kind of ready to try out something new... duck first... I took the first bite... hmmm quite nice... taste a bit stronger than chicken.... i felt so like eeiiishh... but i took it down and upon taking the 2nd piece... i was more or less ok with it...Lastly, I tried the frogs legs... Ok so i had to try and take a small piece at a time.... Hmm taste really strange but i was more or less ok aft mixing with sauce... My friends told me to try out the frog legs porridge at Geylang Lorong 3... Hmm that will take awhile...Oh wells... it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Though i am not a very big fan of this... i guess i will be more accustomed to it in the future...In my opinion 8/10 for everything... continue reading

It was my first visit here.If it wasn't for my e-voucher, I probably wouldn't have entered this place. To be frank I've never heard of this place before, however, it seems like DXE is popular because there was a long queue at the Vivo outlet!Service wise, it was really good - we didn't wait very long for our seats.Furthermore, the young staff inside were rather pleasant. We ordered a few dishes, enough for 5 people - all in SMALL portion.Managed to clear everything in the end!Total bill was around $120 - to me it was expensive, given the amount of food, and the quality.Only main highlight was the herbal roasted duck.Other than that, nothing to rave about. continue reading
