With lots of chocolate crumbs on top, it has made me to choose this bun which has a name called Chocolenu. I have never seen this type of bun in our local bakery shop as it is quite unique. Taste wise has a nice soft and fluffy texture with an aromatic chocolate taste. As for the crumbs, it is not too loose and is quite compact. Due to the availability of free tasting, I got a chance to taste this cream cheese bun which has soft and smooth cream cheese fillings in it. as for the bun texture, it also has a soft and fluffy texture. Overall, price wise is a bit steep as compared to local bakery shop but it is still worth a try as their product is quite tasty.   continue reading

During this Halloween season, Donq has introduced a few Halloween theme bread and buns to celebrate the occasion. I was particularly attracted to this bun that is shaped like a pumpkin. It was described as 'a green tea flavoured bread with pumpkin custard filling'. As i like both green tea and pumpkin, i quickly snapped up one for my tea break that day.The green tea flavour was just right without any hint of bitterness it it. It actually brought out the sweetness of the bun which was so soft and likable. However, i was pretty disappointed with the 'pumpkin custard'. Beside being rather stingy with the custard, the custard has no pumpkin taste nor colour at all. I am very sure it was just normal custard filling. The only comfort is that the custard is not too sweet and has a light vanilla fragrance. I really this is a one of incident to the misled description of their buns. continue reading

When you happen to pop by Orchard, do go around in search of those nice bakeries because there are a lot and some are newly open. I happen to see Donq so I decided to give it a try since I need to have my lunch. The variety is a lot and I can't decide which to choose. I was then attracted to their Chocolate Banana Ring. It looks so much like a donut but is too big for a donut. I think it can fill my tummy up for the rest of the day. And subsequently I saw another similar one with the same size and packaging, 5Shokumame. I decided to grab these two to try.I started with 5shokumame. A generous amount of beans even within the bun like red, green beans. And the size of the beans are big. Top of the bun is a light spread of icing. It makes the entire bun quite sweet at first but towards half of the bun, it is still not that bad. The bun is soft within and a little spongy. I tried tearing it to small pieces for easy consume and is kind of hard on the outside. So now I can say it looks like donut but the texture is not as soft as donut.I left the Chocolate Banana Ring to the following day for breakfast. It still stays fresh. It is just the same as 5shokumame ring in texture but within the bun, a good amount of chocolate paste from every bite. The taste of banana only comes towards finishing the bun. I believe it comes from the top of the bun with something like chocolate paste or icing that has been crystallized and small amount of banana milk or something. I probably should buy just one. One is enough to fill your tummy, I think whole day. I will try again on others in their list when I pop by Orchard next round. continue reading

This is a relatively new bakery at the basement of Takashimaya!! So how's the bread here? I only tried 2 types this time.Quite pricey... just these 2 already cost $5.20. I think the bread here are seriously overpriced.Spinach sausage bun, one of their best-sellers but I didn't really like it... a bit sick of sasuage bun.I prefer this one - apple sweet potato bun with almond nuts. Nice! It is not too sweet too! continue reading
