Signature Dishes
Location: Simei MRT StationAmbience: simple stall in food courtMy humble opinion:I ordered the Sliced Fish Bittergourd Soup with coarse Bee Hoon ($4.30) without milk. The springy coarse Bee Hoon was completely covered with a generous servings of bitter gourd, 6 big pieces of thickly sliced fish, fresh lettuce, a wedge of tomato & 1 piece of dried seaweed.I just simply love the yummy clear soup! This is definitely one of the healthiest choice in an ordinary food-court.Verdict: Bill: $3.80 or $4.30 (with rice or noodle)Definitely value for money!Warning: The chilli padi is very spicy...get your tissues ready!Repeat visits warranted...!

This is my first visit to the NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Ltd., at Simei Foodcourt, a stone throw away from the Simei MRT Station. Look at the menu on the signboard and I would definitely agree that we are lucky with spoilt of choices.I decided to go for the Butter Fish Combo Meal at S$4.80.While waiting for my lunch, I saw a couple of write-ups about this stall pasted amongst the sumptuous looking menu. There was an article published in the Sunday Times on “China cook took over local food”. Yummy Guide 2009 also published an article about their food. Nancy Sit the Hongkong actress featured an article about the fish soup in 2007 and the list goes on.Presented to me was a reasonable piece of deep fried buttered Saba. The combo set include plain rice and a bowl of soup.Woooooooo the running egg yolk was very impressively topped over the white rice. The saba fish was very crispy and meaty.Though the only downside of Saba is that this special breed of fish have got lots of fish bones but thank goodness there was only a few bones alongside the buttered fish.I did not expect to get such good food at an affordable price from this foodcourt. Moreover, since I am a NTUC Fairprice Plus member, I was given a 10% percent discount. So this combo meal cost only S$4.30.Will go back to try the fish soup next day and return with another review.
