My parents brought me for dinner here years ago, and I remember it being awesome because of the whole riverside dining experience. So I decided to surprise the boyfriend with dinner here one night. As much as he liked the novelty of it all, we both decided it was overpriced and the food ain't that good for us to go back again anytime soon. The name of the restaurant says it all. Before the advent of places like pepper lunch, this was still a pretty cool concept where you get to cook your own meat. Sadly, however, we were presented with slabs of meat which took way too long to cook. Of course, they kindly offered to reheat our stone slabs, but it had to be reheated twice! In the end, it was a good 45-minutes before we could enjoy our steaks, and by then, those that had been cooked earlier were already tough and cold. http://static3.sg.orstatic.com/UserPhoto/photopending/0/F3/002ZB1F23C9D89D1B9E18Fc.jpgIt was exciting when it first arrived, sizzles and all, but it is difficult to perfect the rareness of the meat with these self-cook stones. It was fun, sure, but for the money, I would've been better off spending it elsewhere on better steaks. continue reading

We had earlier purchased a deal voucher ($15 for 1-for-1 set lunch) and headed down to Hot Stones, hoping to have a grillin’ good time. However, the experience was, as with its price tag, no frills dining that is pocket friendly but not tummy friendly. The set consisted of 1) Salad, 2) Choice of Soup/Dessert, 3) Choice of Beef/Salmon/Chicken. The portion of the mains were puny (totally not worth the usual $15/set) and of average quality. Surprisingly, it was the soup and salad that became the stars of the meal. Mushroom SoupThe mushroom soup was creamy and chunky. Decorated with cream art, the soup was both visually appealing and mouth watering! SaladTossed in zesty sesame vinaigrette, this simple salad was tasty and appetizing. Salmon Four tiny pieces of salmon sprinkled with some herbs, period. The salmon was of average quality (not exactly the freshness level we had anticipated as the menu indicated “sashimi grade”) and tasted pretty light. Beef The portion of beef was slightly more than the salmon. However, as with the salmon, the quality of the meat was so-so and was a tad too fatty for my liking. A deserted restaurant (we were the only customers) + puny portion of food + mediocre quality of food sums up our first and last visit to Hot Stones. continue reading

Hot Stones, the name tells it all! A piece of extremely heated stone which you can cook your food on! Don't Worry, the stone can be replaced with a new one once it is deemed that it is not hot enough to cook the food. A brilliant concept, hot stones allows you to cook the food the way you want it. Imagine choosing your beef to be rare, medium rare, medium, any way you like it to be! Ordered wagyu beef tenderloin at $88. It was expensive but it was rather good! Had the supreme seafood set that came with cod fish, scallops, slipper lobster, tuna and a huge prawn! The set came with 2 sides which you can choose from : salad, garlic rice, mashed potato and wedges. The mash and rice is a good source of carbohydrates if you are really hungry! The best thing is that the food is extremely fresh and tasty which is evident from the taste of the seafood, the prawns were so springy, the scallops bursting with freshness and the tuna and cod fish were excellent! The important thing is to take care of the food when cooking as there is no oil involved thus the food tends to stick on the stone. In addition, there was an additional order of half a dozen of oysters! The oysters were soaked a little with salt water and it just felt like they came right out of the sea! Brilliant with tabasco sauce and a squeeze of lemon. Perfect as a starter!Overall, amazing food for the price but be prepared to pay a little more if you want a taste of the premium meats!Bon Appetit! continue reading
