Signature Dishes
Hwang Sil Korean Chinese Restaurant is no stranger to people working in tanjong pagar area. It serves many authentic and nice Korean/Chinese foods. It can be easily spotted with long queue during lunch peak hours. The restaurant is located at Airview Building which is next to the Red Dot Traffic Museum. The oriental decoration of Hwang Sil brings you back “Shanghai”. Photo credit: Hwang SilPhoto credit: Hwang SilPhoto credit: Hwang SilThey served a series of ala carte dishes and set meals for large group. Each set no.1 comprising of Tang Su Yuk (Sweet and Sour Pork), fried Dumpling (8 pieces) and a choice of Jumbo Size JJa Jang Myeon Black Soy Bean Paste noodle) or Jumbo Size Jjam Bong (Spicy Seafood Noodles Soup). Since there are 6 of us, and the waitress recommend that the jumbo size was meant for 2 pax, we orders 2 set of set no.1 ($55) (1 jumbo size JJa Jang Myeon & 1 jumbo size JJam Bong) & ala carte size for JJa Jang Myeon & JJam Bong. Noodles overdosed. I have enclosed herewith the menu from Hwang Sil restaurant for easy reference of the food dishes available. Photo Credit: Hwang sil.JJampong (海鲜拉面) make up of chewy smooth noodles, seafood, vegetables and meat in a spicy soup. It was one of the popular Korean-Chinese dish enjoyed by people over the world, thus you can easily find it in almost every Korean-Chinese restaurant. The use of the natural ingredients and chilli creates a hearty bowl of soup that is packed with robust flavors. The spiciness “shiok” us with the taste. Most of us find it too spicy. But one of my friend disagree as she stated that it was “spicy yet too addictive for you to stop”. The fresh and generous amount of mussels satisfied her greatly. Jja Jang Myeon, is the most popular food in Korean Chinese cuisine. It is makes from topping the noodle with thick soy bean paste (chunjang) together with ingredient suchas diced pork, vegetable and maybe seafood. Jja Jang litering means fried saucein Chinese. To be honest, I have never been a fan of Jja jang Myeon as those I tried in the past have a overpowering oil smell. This Jja Jang Myeon in Hwang sil surprised me with its taste. The sauce was sweet and the texture was just right. It was not too thick, so diners will be easily sick of the taste after a while. The noodles were chewy and smooth as well. It was really addictive that we kept eating it, bowl after bowl. The jumbo sized. The ala carte sizeFried Dumpling was inclusive in set no.1 . It was pan-fried before serving. The sides were very crispy like biscuit. Within it, you can find meat, glass noodles and some spring onion inside.Another of our hot favourite is the Tang Su Yuk (Sweet Sour Pork). The pork cubes where dipped with a layer of flour before being dipped fried. It was then topped with a sweet and sour sauce. The Tang Su Yuk was crispy as though it was popcorn chicken. The sweet-sour taste helps to tickle our taste bud and enhanced our appetite. RegularSize Tang Su Yuk - $38All in all, it is worth coming for the Korean-Chinese dish in Hwang sil. It is recommended to call to make reservation in case it can be very crowded after working hours too.
