Located at the left side of the street, around 2 mins walk after Joo Chiat Complex, is where this humble little shop is. What I like about the popiah here is the popiah skins are homemade and this young chap made the popiah skin with his bare hand! Kudos to him.I ordered a popiah and kueh pie tee set ($4) which comes with 1 standard popiah and 3 kueh pie tee. Kway Guan Huat's popiah comes in many varieties. For the set we ordered, we have the standard popiah which doesn't not include egg or prawns. If you like your popiah with prawns and egg, then do order the premium ones. Overall I like the presentation of the set, simple and pretty, especially the kueh pie tee looks like 3 flowers beside the popiah. Taste wise, I find it rather ordinary. However I like the fact that the radish fillings are coarsely chopped which resulted to a more juicy mouthful experience which eating it. On top of that, perhaps it's due to the homemade popiah skin recipe, the thin translucent skin does not break easily as compare to those popiah outside. So I feel that it's quite a good idea to order those DIY Popiah party set from them during gathering and such. Do give them a try if you happen to be at Joo Chiat area. However if you find Joo Chiat too far, they have an outlet opened at the newly revamped Tangs basement too, at a slightly high price tagged. continue reading

We chanced upon an old shop selling handmade popiah and Kueh Pie Tee after running our weekend errand in Joo Chiat. You may be surprised that this traditional and run-down shop still has its support with its well known Poh Piah Skin history since 1938 in Joo Chiat. Take a look into the shop and you will find no tables or chairs but many tubs of ready made Poh Piah and Kueh Pie Tee ingredients. You will also get to see a number of traditional stoves that are used for Poh Piah Skin Making sitting on traditional ancient looking tiles. Kway Guan Huat is also featured as one of Dr Leslie Tay's pick for its best Poh Piah. Like any other poh piah stall, the food is prepared on the spot upon ordering, you may choose to dine in by there is only 1 table available, which is beside the Poh Piah Lady. Besides its long Poh Piah History, what are the additional buying points? Let's check them out! This poh piah is legendary! It's skin was indeed very thin and immediately bought me over. Good stuff I thought! *Slurps* Ingredients like the turnips were scooped up from the cooker, bubbling hot while the rest like Tau Gay (Beansprouts), crispy bits and vegetables were added later on, separately. Although the layer of poh piah skin is seemingly thin but dont judge a book by its cover, it holds every piece of the ingredients so firmly that nothing actually ooze out from this thin layer, moreover the fillings are moist! I have opted for its non spicy version as the my friend cannot take the spice. Kueh Pie Tee on the other hands was equally good. Ingredients are similar to Poh Piah's, turnip carrot, fresh lettuce, beansprouts and ground nuts. With a cripsy crust outside and its juicy ingredients filled in, and boy what a perfect match!Kueh Pie Tee Cost: S$2.00 for 3 Poh Piah : S$2.00 eachSomething that one might want to know is that place was rather congested (one way traffic) and parking space is limited. For those who have not try this yet. I will highly recommend this! Die Die must try! continue reading

Their location is a little remote and not too easy to find. If you are a lover of popiah like myself then you would have probably hear of their big name or even tasted their signature popiah. They are making the popiah skins right there. You can have the assurance that the popiah skin is definitely one of the freshest. A basic roll of popiah is at $2. If you like to have crab meat added then it would be at $3.50. The popiah is firmly wrapped with ingredients like turnip, carrot, lettuce, boiled egg and more. This is definitely one of the nicest popiah that i ever tasted. continue reading

This popiah has won my heart as one of the 3 most favourite popiahs sold .Although $2 is a bit expensive,i still feel no regret to buy it.It is bursting with flavor and is 50% bigger than most other popiah. I'm quite full after eating it.I like the skin,it seem like very thin, but it will not break, very nice.the thickness is just right. The ingredient is also very much.Make you feel you mouth full when eat one of them, really great. continue reading

Kway Guan Huat is a big name for Popiah, they have been selling popiah and kueh pie tee since 1938, long before i was born. Their skins are handmade and it can be quite entertaining to watch how these skins are made there the traditional way. They are selling the basic popiah at $2.00 and the premium one at $3.50. Their basic ingredients are turnips, carrots, lettuce, beansprouts and crispy bits, and you will get crab meat for the premium roll. No matter, you will get a tasty and firm popiah with generous filling. If you are big fan of popiah then you should not miss out this legendary popiah place! continue reading
