A simple and humble hawker centre in Ang Mo Kio with stalls that have been running with good business for the past decade. One such shop is this Meng Kee Fried Chicken Wing Rice stall, for the past 10 years, he started off selling just fried chicken wings and rice, but now has more to offer. Sweet and sour fish, chicken and more..His chicken wings are decent sized, the batter is very crispy and it is not too oily. The meat itself has flavour and the rice is the typical hainanese chicken rice rice. A very flavourful plate with includes a side of achar. The sweet pineapple condiment is a must have for all his customers. He makes them himself and the taste of the achar is what adds the uniqueness to all his dishes. The soup is also quite tasty and it doesn't seem to be MSG-ladden, so enjoy it! In the past 10 years, the quality and standard of his fried chicken wing rice has always remained top notch and has amassed a huge customer based. It's often known that he is sold out before dinner time. I am sometimes rather upset to get there at 7pm on a saturday night to see him washing up the stall and telling me he's run out of rice and all forms of meat!Do not be afraid to ask for more achar if you fancy it! continue reading

My favourite chicken wings rice from this stall for only $2.50. It came with 2 x chicken wings and achar. But i always requested to have the more slices of cucumber and do not want achar. Their chicken wings are well seasoned and nicely fried to give it a crispy texture. The plain rice was of good texture and softness. They served it with a packet of those chilli for chicken rice. For only $2.50, it is cheap and good. continue reading

The stall has been in this food centre for quite a while now. This is another stall operated by husband and wife with their mother. The husband is in charge of taking the orders, collecting the payments and the wife is behind the chopping board. Their mother is taking charge of the cooking right behind. I am a regular customer and so they knew what my order just by looking at my face. My order has always been the Fried Chicken Wings with Rice for $2.50. It came with 2 pieces of fried chicken wings served along with pieces of cucumber and Achar. I always made a request to have it without the Achar so i usually have additional pieces of cucumber as replacement. Their chicken wings are nicely marinated and fried well to give the skin a nice crisp. This stall also offers Fried Chicken Chop Rice and Pork Chop Rice served with Salad Dressing, Thai Dressing or Lemon Sauce as well as Grilled Chicken Chop for selection. They do have sides like tau kwa, braised egg, harsh brown, fish cake etc to add on. The Uncle is always polite and patient when serving the customers. That might be the reason for a considerably long queue during lunch and weekends. continue reading
