There are a few larger Old Chang Kee stalls that also sells freshly made local dishes such as Curry Chicken, Mee Siam, Laksa, Mee rebus and Nasi Lemak.I had went to West Mall branch at the basement to buy the Nasi Lemak. The price was not cheap though at $5, consider outside the West Mall there was a stall selling at $2.20.The Nasi Lemak has quite a number of items, such as fried chicken wings, vegetables, fish cake and hotdog. The chicken wing had a crispy battered skin which tasted very good. The chicken wing was also meaty and juicy. The sambal chili tasted very good, better than other Nasi lemak stalls. It was not watery, with enough spicy and belacan taste, though it was slightly salty. The rice has mild coconut fragrant and taste which I guess most other Nasi Lemak stalls nowadays were the same. continue reading

I was craving for curry chicken and the nearest option was old chang kee. It was time I tried out their main courses instead of their snacks. The curry chicken was very average tasting. There were 3 bread that came along with it. The bread is the kind that we eat with the chilli crab. Surprisingly, the bread was quite filling even though they looked quite small. There were 3 pieces of curry chicken and 1 potato. The meat was tender but there was quite a lot of fats. Don't think I will get this again unless i have a huge craving for it. continue reading

Feeling a little hungry on rainy day and I had find high and low for old chang kee only to realise that it was actually located at the basement of the ball near to the carpark. It is a small shop with 3 round tables and its location was not prominent. These golden fried crab meat was good enough. Not very oily like I expected. Finger food are placed individual bags, separated from one another. The lady asked if I need chilli and had squeezed a generous amount of chilli on the gigantic fishballs I had.Although the amount of chilli is alot, it does not overpower the taste of the fish balls.Love the spring feeling while biting on the big fish ball with the spiciness from the chilli sauce. And it makes me feel warmer in a cold rainy night. continue reading

Got a po pian and fried squid heads for my tea break. The po pian was freshly fried which tasted really crispy and warm.As for the fried squid heads, its tasted a bit tough, not that easy to chew, but the taste was still rather good except the texture. Overall, its still acceptable. . continue reading

People usually like curry puffs for its fillings, but I like the curry puff here for its skin. The skin was crispy but not the kind you get from the Malay stalls. Apart from the edges where the skin is thicker, the skin is generally quite thin. The filling was not too bad either. Lots of potato and chicken pieces, and not too spicy. I'd like to try the other flavors the next time. continue reading
