Not far away from Somerset MRT if you were walking, the restaurant was actually quite hard to be seen. Recommended by a Vegan friend, he said it was a unique spacious place for dinning. Offering natural food, they promised their food was free from processed ingredients, artificial preservatives and Trans-fat.Upon entering, the décor was impressive. Using simple to create a harmony feeling, it looked clean and neat. Supermarket and restaurant were combined as one, carefree and comfy. All their food in Menu or Cabinet for sold was organic in nature, obviously healthier choice. One and only kind of coffee displayed in the Menu, I wanted to give it a try. What a relaxing feel to have a cup of steaming beans coffee, it was brewed by fair trade organic coffee beans. Affordable at $4.00, it was accompanied with sugar syrup.Mix around of brown rice and whole-wheat stuffs, each spoon was chewy tasty. Not too salty, rice was cooked until a correct texture. $7.80 was reasonable, filling portion. All their price at Menu was net, no GST and extra service charges. Thanks to my friend bringing us there, it was an enjoyable outing. continue reading

I dragged my two carnivorous friends to Real Food for some organic, fresh, vego food that both theirs and my unhealthy digestive system would greatly appreciate and thank me for.We paid a visit to the Killiney branch, their second outlet after the first at Clarke Quay was a resounding success. Real Food is a grocer, cafe and bookstore, that provides that all rounded wholesome healthy lifestyle experience. Using their spacious area to full advantage, the space is divided neatly into the bookstore section where one can browse through guide books on healthy living and cooking, a section with comfortable armchairs for the patrons who choose to relax over a freshly squeezed juice and of course the eating section. The menu, printed on brown recycled paper has clear labels stating what is gluten-free, soy, wheat-free etc, perfect for individuals with special diets and allergies. Prices are reasonable when you take into account that only organic and fresh ingredients are used and everything such as the sauces and dressings are made from scratch. They are also nett with no service charge or GST though your orders are taken at the table and the food is served to you.I had the Fried Brown Rice $7.80 as my main and my did this smell so good when it first arrived. Stir-fried with garlic, capsicum, french beans, carrots and lentils, I loved how this dish was so colourful, vibrant and appetising even to look at! And it tasted great as well! It was hard to believe that this was a healthy plate of fried rice. I would definitely want to get my hands on this recipe and try to remake it on my own.'One friend chose the Baked Brown Rice with Mozzarella Cheese $13.80. Another bowl of warm wholesome goodness that came straight out of the oven with oozing melted cheese. Judging from how he enthusiastically scooped out every last grain of cheese covered brown rice, I am going to assume that this was pretty good..or maybe he was just hungry.. Just kidding! We had the Organic Sweet Potato Wedges $6.80. Simply baked sweet potatoes that were bursting with sweetness on its own. I might actually consider trading my good ol' fries for this low G.I. starchy veggie which is definitely healthier and less harsh on my waistline. And because it is tradition to always end the meal on a sweet note, we ordered the Strawberries and Bananas Pancake $9 with Mango Coconut Sorbet $5 on the side. This pancake was not your usual fluffy, light pancake because it was actually made from a gluten/wheat-free batter which produced a denser and heavier result. The batter mixture is also made from scratch the moment you order it so be prepared to wait quite a bit for this dish. Otherwise, be awed by how pretty it is, decorated with slices of strawberries, bananas and drizzled with organic raw honey. Go for the extra scoop of sorbet on top of it, it is a real great combination.Overall, because of its dimmed lighting that made it extra comforting, this place is a picture of zen and a sense of peace when you walk in. We did end up staying for about four hours here enjoying the atmosphere and calming feel of the place..actually it was because we could not leave the cafe as it started raining cats and dogs outside in the middle of our meal and neither of us had a brolly. Nonetheless, we had an enjoyable stay and this place is a great find for affordable, organic and healthy food. I will be back when I am in need of my next detox. continue reading

This place changed my impression of vegetarian food. It serves a variety of food from western to asian, all of which are really yummy. To top it off all their food are organic. The mushroom aglio olio was very nice and flavorful, and the mushrooms were incredibly juicy. The bread of the mushroom bruschetta was nice and crispy topped with melted cheese and juicy mushrooms. It was indeed a great combination. While the portion of the portbello was rather small, it was rich and tasty. All in all, I enjoyed my experience at Real Food. Not only was the food good, but the staff was also very nice and friendly. I will definitely be back for more albeit being my love for meat. continue reading

Real Food outlet is situated on 110 Killiney Road next to the huge Singtel Shop at Somerset and it has a Real Big restaurant space. As soon as you enter on your right you see a large grocery shop, that stacks organic ingredients and food. The entire central portion is divided into two seating areas. One area is meant to have a meal, and the place has arrangement to accommodate large groups. The other part has comfortable sofas, meant to provide you with a comfort seating where you can eat and enjoy reading a book. Real Food has huge wooden bookshelves, stacked with hundreds of interesting choice of books. Real Food has an impressive selection of vegetarian cuisine! The menu, printed on recycled paper, has a great variety, from their all day breakfast, to the choice of salads, to pasta’s and pizza’s and even Asian rice and noodle cuisine and dumplings the place is quite a heaven for healthy vegetarian diet. This is what we picked: Organic Potato Wedges: I have had organic potato dish just once before, and that was quite a few years ago. Aesthetically, the dish looked luscious. The potatoes has an brilliant, shiny glaze to it, which was not from oil. What’s most heartening to know was that the potatoes have its skin on. The potatoes were minimally seasoned, allowing me to actually taste the potato itself. Organic potatoes are slightly sweeter and more juicier than normal potatoes. Dumpling soup: The dumplings were nicely stuffed with veggies, and the vegetarian broth was amazingly flavoured. It was just the right amount of salt, that allowed you to actually taste the flavours of veggies used in the broth. It is one of the best dumpling soups I have had… Grilled Vegetarian Sandwich: The bread was amazingly good… perfectly toasted. The veggies included zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes and had a freshly made tomato puree sauce and cheese. Lightly seasoned, it was served with rocket and lettuce salad sprinkled with sunflower seeds. Organic Fried Noodles: The organic brown rice Udon were beautifully stir-fried with veggies, namely capsicum, mushrooms and carrots. The noodles were nicely seasoned with various sauces. The FoodReal Food has always been my favorite place to head to whenever I want a healthy light meal. This dumpling soup of mine is always a must order everytime I visit this place as well. The dumpling soup includes mushroom, carrot, beancurd, french bean and chestnuts. All these ingredients gave so much flavour to the dumpling. The soup was so good as well. The best thing is I totally don't feel thirsty after having it. It was filling too. Lovely place to dine! continue reading
