Introduction
What distinguishes Tai Chong Kok is their insistence on using the best ingredients to produce the most authentic Cantonese confections and pastries. Each mooncake is produced the same way as it was in 1935 – with freshly made pastes in traditional wooden moulds. The Tai Chong Kok experience extends to the original packaging of mooncakes in stringed brown paper bags, a practice that has been kept for decades. Tai Chong Kok is also famous for their traditional Chinese wedding cakes, soft flour cakes and Cantonese confections.

This Traditional Chinese bakery stall is hiding at one corner fof this popular food court at Ngee Ann City. There are many choices to choose from and I have bought their signature roasted char siew pau. The lady staff over at their counter is polite and patient when serving me when I asked different questions on the products sold here. The stall is very neat and clean. The roasted crust is very buttery taste and is crunchy. The roasted pork meat is fragrant and roasted till really tender and juicy. However it would have been better if the portion could have been bigger as for the price of $1.20 per piece, is abit too expensive.

Recently when I went to Takashimaya, I was pleasantly surprised that Da Zhong Kok opened a branch there. What they sell at Takashimaya is the same as what is sold in the Chinatown main branch, just that there are lesser varieties. I know my parents loved the salty biscuit, so I bought a packet of it home. It costs me $1.80 if I recall correctly. There are 4 pieces in each packet, so each piece is 45cents. The biscuit is quite alright, I felt it was quite spongy and not very soft. The salty filling in the biscuit is also not too nice in my opinion. I still preferred the ones sold at the Alexandra road which is softer and just simply nicer.

After a walk at the basement of ngee ann city, I found a stall selling traditional pastries and decided to buy some home. In the end, I have brought their egg tart, wintermelon fillings pastries and many more. The wintermelon pastries is well made and baked as it has a nice golden brown colour and is poked with several holes for indication purpose. The pastries is well made, has light and flaky texture. As for the wintermelon fillings, it is not too sweet and has a soft texture. As for the egg tart, the pastry is not that crispy but still taste good. Price starts from 80 cents for a tau sar piah onwards.

Was glad to know Da Zhong Guo is here in Takashimaya and I need not to go all the way to Chinatown instead. I like a few of their biscuits which are old school and traditional and the taste still remain which is important. I spotted one of my favourite which was the egg white cookies, the texture as though of half cake and half bread, simple yet fulfilling. They omitted the usual over powdered flour on the cookie which was good. I took 3 pieces at one go when I came home, just can't resist! Per pack of 4 at $2.40.
