This time round, they are having a different promotion for Happy Hours. It's $2 for each Fine de Claire Oysters from France, and its limit to 6 oysters per alcholic drink purchase. Also available is $3 for 5 slices of Salmon Sashimi.

However, this time they limit to 1 dozen of oysters per serving. Even if you orders 3 alcoholic drinks, you will only be able to order 1 dozen of oysters. You can only order another 6 oysters after you finish the existing 1 dozen.

The oysters this time round was skinnier & saltier compared to the previous ones they offered, which was fatter & creamer. We didn't quite like the oysters this time, so we didn't order a lot.

Salmon Sashimi on the other hand was sweet & fresh. The serving per slice was quite thick as well. We also ordered Trio of Fries which consist of Truffle Fries, Spam Fries & Lotus Roots. Truffles fries is slightly salty while the spam fries is slightly chewy. Lotus roots on the other hand was super crispy!

Of cos, we also ordered other items. For more pictures, please visit: http://milkfrost.blogspot.sg/2013/06/tanuki-bar.html

Service has also improved compared to my last visit. It's now easier to get their attention

Oh My God! This is a place for oyster lovers! I'm pretty sure that Tanuki has the best Oyster hour! From 5pm-8pm (Happy Hours), oysters are going for only $1 (up to a limit of 1 dozen) with every alcoholic drink purchase! 3 of us girls ordered 3 dozens of oysters with 3 alcoholic drink purchase & I swear the other diners near us are staring at us with disbelieve! This place sells $1 oysters at happy hour and I will be sure to drop by next time. I ordered spam nigiri sushi which is quite nice since the spam to rice ratio is considerably high. I also ordered the fish taco which is quite nice (why is a japanese restaurant selling fish tacos???) The avocado was quite sweet and the fried fish well fried without being too oily. Also tried the tanuki rolls which were quite OK.

Tanuki, which means Japanese Racoon, has recently been opened by the same people behind the Standing Sushi Bar.The place is an 80-seater martini and raw food bar in Orchard Central where they challenged the Spanish Tapas by serving Japanese small plates. Menu consists of creative style sushi, fried food and sashimi and yes, many are raw like the steak tartare.Besides these, we also ordered other food. Speaking of Raw food, what else but the all-time Singaporean favourite oyster? Going for $1 (max of 12 pieces) with any alcoholic drink during the happy hour from 5pm-8pm daily including weekends, the medium-sized Hiroshima oyster might not be the biggest ones you've had in your life but fresh and perfect for any oyster addict.

American Roll
The cheddar cheese was nowhere found in this American roll but the sliced beef in the centre was sweet and resembles a remix Yoshinoya beef bowl, hyped up with yellow mustard, mayo and ketchup.

As truffled beef carparcio over deep fried cheese potato, these Tanuki balls might be tastier with more dark brown base dressing which resembled the Okonomiyaki sauce.

The Singapore Sling
Our alcohol to go with the oysters was Singapore Sling, a mixture of gin, cherry and pineapple ($11 at Happy hour). There is also the choice of Martinis and other classic cocktails.

In short, the oysters here are a steal and the Japanese fusion fare are worth a try though I would prefer if they could served the dons without the rice to boost it's menu selection( ie having the panfried Teriyaki chicken of the Yakitori Don without the rice, of course then the word Don must be altered).
Service was prompt and fast on a weekend happy hour. But it is still unpredictable whether the place might get crowded when more people come here for their oyster + alcohol fix!
