A place with ambiance and vibe of a typical Bangkok bar but in doesn't want to fly overseas just visit Tawandang. We had their signature dish Deep Fried Pork Knuckle, it was so visually tantalizing that we dig in without snapping a picture. Fried till crispy crackling pig skin covered the moist and succulent meat in it. Served with sour fermented cabbage and buttery mash potato. A generous amount of sweet and tangy Thai chili was given as a dipping for this dish. With light coconut scent the Thai Fish Cake was bouncy and chewy. Pancake look a like fish paste packed with spicy and aromatic Thai spices, Scrumptious. We ordered their House brewed lager beer, with hops pleasant aroma and mild flavor we drank rounds after rounds without thinking of the beer belly that’s going to pop up the next day. The FoodI ordered Spicy Tom Yam Soup with River Prawns and Coconut Milk and Deep Fried Pork Knuckle Served With Spicy Sauce. The Tom Yam Soup is tasty, with the right level of spiciness and sourness and very appetizing. Even though there is coconut milk inside but still taste like the clear original Tom Yam Soup. The ingredients inside are fresh and the prawns are also very succulent. The Deep Fried Pork Knuckle is my favourite dish of all as the skin is very crispy on the outside and surprisingly, the meat does not taste fatty and oily and also goes very well with the spicy chilli sauce. Even the side dishes like the radish also taste very good and well marinated with spices that makes it very fragrant! The PriceReasonably priced at $25++ for the whole billOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!Read More

I brought my family day for dinner because they have not been to the original one in Bangkok which i find it fantastic. The local set up is not as grand but the food is quite authentic. Great food but we find the price to be on the high end side. We were not disappointed with the food and we will certainily be back for more. It is best to visit on Monday where they have promotional discount if you can go onto the stage to sing. I'll certainly recommend my friends to this place. Read More

Ambience: 4.5/5Food: 3.5/5Service: 4.5/5Price: $55/paxRecommended dishes: Tom Yam Soup Pinaapple riceThe band was the highlight of the night. The band made lots of variety to their performance from singing to dancing. They changed costumes constantly to match their performance. They even included their service crew when dancing the gungdam style. There were both traditional thai dance and modern hiphop. They also invited enthusiatic customers to dance with them. It was really entertaining to watch them on stage. The service staff was quick and thoughtful. When our soup turns cold (while waiting for other dishes), they offered to change the lighter, so that we could have hot soup. The food might not be as fast, but the wait was compensated by the entertaining performance on stage. The sweet and sour fish and pork knuckles were also their popular dishes, but we did not order as it is too big a portion, more suitable for groups of 4 and above. If you order right, you will not be disappointed. A good place to enjoy the festive mood. Slightly noisy, but isn't that what a festive celebration should feel like? Read More

Headed down to Tawandang with a couple of my colleagues for dinner one rainy evening. Heard quite a bit about this German/Thai eatery that apparently serves up decent food with a mean beer to go along. But quality honestly didn't live up to expectations. The thai mango salad was nicely tart but the dried shrimps in it were limp and tasted stale. The pork knuckles fared better even though I did find it a little too fatty for my liking. But the crisp skin did save things a little. What I found insipid was the sausage platter, packing in the sodium and steep prices. The best dish was probably the BBQ squid, which had a nice chew to it but lacking in charcoal goodness. Definitely will not be making my way back especially with the relatively steep pricing and average food quality. Read More

I learnt the definition of cosmopolitanism when I visited the Tawandang Microbrewery with my hubby last week. Hubby was eating a very authetic german pork knuckle while I was having a typical thai dish of basil leaf minched meat with rice while we were drinking a pints of handcrafted beer brewed on the spot and looking at the thai waitresses danced to the spanish songs being played at the restaurant! WOW! That is truly global and we enjoyed every minute of it!Despite it being a "Modern Thai Cuisine" restaurant, the must-try at Tawandang is actually the pork knuckle! It was truly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We enjoyed every bit of it. My basil leaf minched meat rice was authentic as well. But nothing was more authentic than our server's thai! The beer on the other hand was slightly disappointing as they only served lager, wheat beer and a dunkel (dark beer). While the lager was a tad sweet and didn't quite meet the hubby's expectation, the dunkel suited me just nice. Nonetheless, we were tempted to order the mini keg of their brew for our next party!Read More

Ordered a Thai iced lemon tea.Did not taste the way I had expected it, a little too sour with the distinct thai tea taste.Thai food there was amazing, especially the green curry. Review of the other thai dishes ordered will be done in a separate entry.Would have preferred the tea to not be so sour and a little sweeter.Read More

I patronized this outlet regularly, ate their thai buffet, so good but so short-lived, and also their ala-carte items.Notable nice things about the buffet before it was pulled is the LIVE dessert stations. They actually have the thai people there to cook and prepare the Mango Rice, Ice Popsicle, there. And the pumpkin with cream is really good too.And then you also have chefs preparing the BBQ shrimp, the Tom Yum soup and Mango Salad. The mango salad here is spicy, as for Tom Yum, they can prepare two styles. Singapore style or Bangkok Style. Bangkok style just meant they add coconut milk, and more chili oil in. NICE!And then coming back to the ala-carte items. I really love Morning Glory, the steamed fish in lime sauce and OF COURSE the pierce de resistance, the black pepper crab. Highly recommended! But be careful of your budget, it 's very easy to get carried here, and you end up $140 for two person. Isn't that very ex for thai food?Read More
