Strong Viet coffee

Vietnam is known for being one of the largest coffee producers in the World! I've been to Vietnam once a few years ago and I love their coffee! However, you really need a fair bit of patience as theirs is the 'drip coffee' type whereby they brew one cup at a time in small filter devices that sit on top of the cup. The estimated waiting time is between 7 to 10 minutes. Trung Nguyen drink menu offers the normal Cappucino and Latte coffees as well as their specialty which are known as 'Creative 1'

 Trung Nguyen drink menu offers the normal Cappucino and Latte coffees as well as their specialty which are known as 'Creative 1' to 'Creative 7' with 1 being the mildest to 7 being the strongest. I tried their iced coffee before which was not bad! This time, I had the Creative 4 which is a little strong for me and I will most probably try their Creative 1 or 2 next time

Located at the basement level, this cafe is not very easy to locate as it is "blocked" by the lovely aquarium tanks surrounding it. Once located, one would approve of the comfortable setting of the plushy couches and wooden tables - nondescript, simple, relaxing - the way a good cafe is supposed to be, without being overly fussy or pretty.I ordered the tea set comprising of Black Coffee and a slice of their Oreo Cheesecake. Located at the basement level, this cafe is not very easy to locate as it is "blocked" by the lovely aquarium tanks surrounding it. Once located, one would approve of the comfortable setting of the plushy couches and wooden tables - nondescript, simple, relaxing - the way a good cafe is supposed to be, without being overly fussy or pretty.

I ordered the tea set comprising of Black Coffee and a slice of their Oreo Cheesecake. It was served in a tiny metal mug with a metal ..dispenser? I was asked to wait for about five minutes before I tasted the coffee, to let the aroma of the coffee bean "sip" in, so I complied.

And took a bite of the tempting-looking pastry placed in front of me while waiting to drink my coffee.

It was hard, yes, a very hard slab of frozen cheesecake that was lacking in the fragrance of cheese. It tasted like oreo cookies mashed into a pie and served as cheesecake, actually. No, it was not good, I was disappointed.

Finally, I could taste the coffee I was anticipating to. Lifting the dispenser, the aroma of freshly-brewed dark coffee hit me, reminding me of the good old days when my grandparents brewed their coffee from scratch - strong, black and purely delicious.

I took a sip of this piping hot caffeine fix, and mind you, it was bitter to the core. I stirred in some sugar, even though I wasnt supposed to really do that - but it sweetened the coffee enough for me to be able to appreciate its bitter goodness.

Yes, fragrance factor, full marks. Yes, traditional, authentical good beans factor, full marks. Taste-wise.. perhaps I am still more accustomed to the western cafes or local coffess, hence shall take some getting used to.

Trung Nguyen Coffee has played to its strengths by opening cafes, serving their signature coffee and other drinks. While decor is contemporary and modern, the brewing process uses the traditional drip filtering method. Ambience is casual at Trung Nguyen Coffee, perfect for chilling or shooting the breeze.

Service at Trung Nguyen Coffee takes after the larger international coffee chains, where you place orders at the counter, and collect them yourself. However, if the outlet has fewer customers, staff of Trung Nguyen Coffee are known to serve your order to your table, which is more than what is expected for this kind of casual cafe. Good!

Food at Trung Nguyen Coffee is rather limited, mainly consisting of cakes, desserts, and various light bites such as sandwiches. The cakes are pretty good, and worth trying for their unique flavour. The highlight is definitely their coffee, and I like that Trung Nguyen Coffee also sells packets of the G7 Original 3-in-1 Instant Coffee for takeaway.
