Taiwan spicy and sour ramen $4The texture of the gravy is like lor mee's gravy. The ramen noodles seemed overcooked as it was a bit (nua/mushy). The texture was too soft to enjoy it. It was also quite tasteless, lacking in both the spicy flavour and sour flavour Lu Rou Stew Meat Rice $4.50The taste of the stew meat tasted like canned food. There was no homecooked flavour at all. At $5, it is not worth trying. one good thing about this rice bowl is that the lu rou is not very fatty so is suitable for the health-conscious and those afraid of gaining weight. continue reading

Ordered a bowl of Zha Jiang Mian for $4.50. This item was newly launched not long ago and is not on the official menu. There was a reasonable amount of minced meat but they could have included more shredded cucumbers and carrots as the amount was quite little. The minced peanuts went well with the dish too. The noodles was soft and the gravy was well-seasoned. Wait was less than 5 minutes as I was the only customer there. There are only a few tables available to dine in though. continue reading

Under the bento set,the curry chicken cutlet rice ($5.50) is the most recommended for it's portion and taste. For dine in,i have to pay first and then get receipt while waiting for the food to be prepare. The curry for the cutlet rice taste very similar to Japanese curry,it is creamy and not spicy at all. There are also some small chunk of potatoes in the curry. The chicken cutlet uses chicken breast meat and is flatten to make it look bigger. The chicken cutlet is well seasoned and i like the dash of chilli powder on it.However,It seems like there is also sour plum powder added which make it more appetizing. This bento set is quite unique as it is like Japanese-Taiwanese fusion dish and it is worth to try. continue reading

My 2nd Visit in a day. I went back to the same stall after my movie and realise that it was closing soon, therefore we quickly made an available last order which was the crispy chicken cubes (Jiao Yan Ji). Costs: S$4.00Xi Men Jie, its name comes direct from the street of Taiwan Night Market where good food are found. The stall never fails to provide a variety of taiwanese snacks on its menu especially some of the authentic kinds like braised pork rice. The pipping hot and crispy hot chicken cubes are placed in their paper bag and comes with a few wooden sticks to pierce into the meat allowing us to avoid my fingers from being scalded.Very piece of the chicken cubes are merely meatless and mostly skin, could be be due to that we are having the left overs as we had the last order. Nevertheless, the bites are crispy and tastes great with pepper and salt in the batter, aromatic as well. I will definitely give a visit again and not during their last order. The total amount spent. continue reading

Xi men jie has been situated at westmall for quite awhile and being a frequent movie-goer to westmall, it was my first try for xi men jie! We ordered the crabmeat and chicken mee sua ($4) and I really like mine with some vinegar and pepper, adding spring onions beefed up the taste as well. Halfway through, we ordered fried chicken to go with our meal, which we took a really long time to finish because it was simply just too much! However it wasn't really that good as it was more of a flour-covered snack than just being good fried chicken. But the mee sua is worth a try! continue reading
