Ya Kun has been around for decades. Their specialties are toasted local white bread and spread with butter and kaya (coconut and egg jam), local coffee and soft boiled eggs. Their cafes (found in many shopping malls) are air-conditioned and clean. You can either choose from the menu or order a set.I really loved the taste of it! Kaya is super popuular in Singapore and Malaysia, it is served almost everywhere. Kaya is their version of our Coco Jam...However, this Ya Kun Kaya Toast one is less sweet but more creamy. The above photographs is Set E, Cheesy French Toast Set. The meal is wonderful because Kaya goes well even with plain toasted bread! The food is always good and very cheap, compared to coffee chains like Starbucks or others. Conclusion: Lots of Company History about a local business success story built on selling toasted bread with egg jam aka kaya with flavorful milk tea or coffee as Wall Decors. I recommend buying the set meals because it is cheaper! By the way, they sell Kaya Spread by the bottle too, so you can make one at home!Note: You have the option if you want Hard-boiled or Soft-boiled for your eggs whenever you visit the closest outlet of Ya Kun you can find. continue reading

Was craving for bread with egg and since we were staying near to safra, we decided to head over ya kun for our afternoon tea break with my sister. We ordered tea, toast bread and half boiled eggs. Not much comments on the tea as it is the usual tea we always have, but at least it is quite think and not diluted. The eggs are boiled till perfect. The bread are toasted till crispy and the kaya butter they use are quite generous as well. continue reading

I have never been to a Ya Kun that has couches like this one, something similar to Starbuck or Coffee Bean. This is on the ground floor of the SAFRA club at Telok Blangah. It is opened to the public. The service was very good. We ordered two butter toast set. I asked them to placed the each egg on separate plates and they were very willing to oblige.Ya Kun's eggs were always perfectly done, a true half-boiled egg, smooth and soft. We were a little surprised when the butter toasts were served. It was really two slices of bread, cut into four pieces (one of the pieces was eaten by my daughter). Unlike some other coffee and toast cafes which indicated in the set as two slices of bread but in actual it was just one slice cut into two. The butter spread of Ya Kun's bread was generous too. This is a nice Ya Kun cafe to sit, relax and enjoy a cup of local coffee. Should have snapped a picture of the cafe. continue reading
