It is easy to miss Yomenya Goemon, a Japanese spaghetti franchise, as it has a small nondescript frontage, located next to sister outlet CocoIchibanya (Japanese curry rice specialist), a Christian gift shop and Lee's Taiwanese Cafe with its eye-catching red lanterns. With impressive and interesting menu, it is tempting to order more than one can digest, so it will take a few visits to do a fair taste test of Yomenya Goemon's popular items. This restaurant is rather small and cosy, so it can't host big groups - a pity because that makes it easy to share the big servings and try all the various pastas. Here, spaghetti is eaten with chopsticks instead of forks..The three items that we ordered - Mediterranean Seafood Spaghetti Soup, Hokkaido Cream Cheese Spaghetti Soup and the Bacon, Chorizo & Tomato Spaghetti - hit all the right notes. The Mediterranean pasta had generous toppings of juicy prawns, mussels and calamari swimming in a hearty tomato broth. The Hokkaido Cheese Soup was so creamy and rich we finished every drop and yearned for more. It is a very filling entree that is best shared as it came with lots of corn kernals, chunks of Hokkaido potato but only a few thin slices of fresh scallop. The Bacon, Chorizo & Tomato Spaghetti was another hearty tasty entree. My luchmates and I liked how each stra

nd of spaghetti was evenly coated by the thick, homemade tomato sauce.
Yomenya Goemon's closest competitor is Waraku which is well established in Singapore. However my lunch group unanimously prefers having our Japanese pasta fix at Yomenya Goemon, with its wider menu selection, overall better quality of ingredients and better value for money. The most expensive dish is the Medierranean Seafood Spaghetti at $14.90++ and is worth every cent. The portions are also more generous here, with two pasta entrees being amply adequate for three small eaters. The set lunch includes a
salad and for a couple of dollars more, dessert as well. Being primarily a pasta specialist, their pizza and desserts are uninspiring. Have your main meal here, and take dessert elsewhere in Star Vista.
