I wanted something light for lunch, hence ordered the Century Egg Lean Meat Porridge, and added an egg! It generally tasted well, but not the best I've eaten. I've always loved the Cantonese-styled porridge where you cannot "feel" rice bits, and this is certainly not the style. However, I must mention that they've marinated the minced pork very well and it was bursting in flavour. For a light choice, this dish would be it. I vaguely recall that the signboard of this stall is now in hanyu pinyin, but it should be the same stall since the food offered remained the same. There is another food court nearby and the 2 food courts don't mix. The cleaners told my colleague that she would need to return the plates herself to the other food court since she had ordered from there! Real hassle! Can't the bosses of both food courts work something out for the convenience of customer groups (usual sight), who might want to enjoy best foods from both food courts? Also, the boss of this food court really need to tell their stall owners to stop shouting. It's really annoying while I was having my meal and hearing deafening shouts , especially from the stall on the left of this ramen stall (didn't notice the name of that stall). Total Cost: Century Egg Lean Meat Porridge (w egg) - $3.50 continue reading

I recently discovered that People's Park Food Center in Chinatown has a number of stalls selling traditional cuisine from Mainland China. After much hesitation, I decided to try the stall with the longest queue - Zhong Hua Mian Zhuang which has cuisine from the Henan province.I ordered a bowl of stewed beef noodle which costs $4. What immediately impressed me was the huge chunks of stewed beef which are fleshy and tasty. Filled with the delightful sweetness of meat and spices, the flavorful soup goes very well with the handmade noodle which is soft and silky. continue reading
