This is Nantsuttei - a signboard which reads some Japanese characters... which probably reads as Nantsuttei. #GeniusDo it the Singaporean way - the longest queue must mean the best ramen. The queue was ridiculously long and the capacity of the restaurant is quite small. Don't come during lunch hour, especially if you need to get back in time.Meanwhile in the queue, the waitresses passed us some menus to look at what we wanted to order. Very adorable cartoons inside the menu with little footnotes

Meanwhile in the queue, the waitresses passed us some menus to look at what we wanted to order. Very adorable cartoons inside the menu with little footnotes and comments!
It kind of distracts you from the fact that the queue is moving very slowly. I think we waited for at least 30 - 40 minutes.

It is quite a torture to stand outside and watch everyone slurping away at the ramen. My stomach was already banging on the walls of my ribcage screaming in hunger. (Let me in!!!! T_T)

Finally we are in! The decor is more of the "contemporary" sort, with squiggly calligraphy printings hung on the walls. Okay enough of the interior design - onto the ramen!

Nantsuttei is famous for their Charsiew Ramen ($16++) which has three pieces of charsiew as compared to one piece of charsiew in the basic simple Ramen ($12++) which also contained a very generous handful of beansprouts, spring onions and ramen noodles.

The serving of this bowl of ramen is quite large, I felt almost completely full after eating the whole thing (except for remaining 20% of the beansprouts which I gave up trying to eat). Taste-wise, it tastes rather average to me. The ramen noodles texture was not as QQ as I would like it to be; the char siew is easy to chew, but could have been more tender. The soup base was quite salty for me, that's why I don't eat the ramen with the soup base in the same mouthful. On the same note, the noodles soaked up quite a bit of the soup already so you don't really have to drink the soup to taste it. To summarise, you can say that each of the components fall short of the oomph factor by just a little. Almost there, but not yet.

A relatively affordable and quality bowl of comfort during ramen cravings... but they really could have scrimped a little on the beansprouts and spring onions, really.
