This is one of the newest stalls in this food centre. This stall offers different types of Sze Chuan dishes.There was a good range of the typical Sze Chuan dishes available for selection. There was a good range of the typical Sze Chuan dishes available for selection. I am not familiar with most of those dishes and most are expected to be quite spicy due to the heavy application of the chilli oil.
The safest selection has to be the Chive Dumpling. It came in 10 pieces for $4. The Auntie threw those dumplings into a pot of hot water and left it there while she attended to another customer wanting to take away some of those dishes. The Auntie politely informed me that the skin of those dumplings was slightly thicker so it required a longer cooking time.
Then, the Auntie slowly picking up a piece at a time from the pot of water using a pair of long wooden chopsticks. She then ladled some water from the same pot into the bowl and placed it on the tray to serve.
She then placed a bowl of sauce on the tray too. I guess she could tell that i am probably not familiar so she explained that the dipping sauce made up of chilli and vinegar.
The dumpling has got a rather thick skin and a generous amount of chive filling. I could not quite get used to the overpowering taste of the chive initially but accepted it subsequently.
It actually tasted slightly better when have it with the dipping sauce. The level of spiciness must have been adjusted to suit the taste bud of locals as it did not taste as spicy as expected but the vinegar taste was a bit too overwhelmed.
I happened to bite on something hard in one of those dumplings. It would fared much better if this did not happen. It was an interesting experience though.
