A la carte curry with rice are priced from $10++. Our server recommended the set meal option where topping up $4.50++ buys you three extra items viz. mini house salad, choice of non-alcoholic beverage and dessert. One of the nicest things about dining at Coco Ichibanya is getting a discount if one asks for less rice. The standard portion of curry rice comes with 250grams of grains ~ probably too much for the average adult. We opted to scale down to 150grams of rice and paid $1++ less each.

I had their signature tonkatsu or pork cutlet curry rice ($12++ for standard portion)

which was very good ~ tasty and substantial, perfect for taming a growling stomach. The pork cutlet was lean, evenly coated with crunchy panko breadcrumbs and fried to an attractive golden colour. The curry was smooth, tasty and concentrated, coating the rice grains thoroughly. I helped myself to the container of their crunchy, homemade pickled radish which was the perfect side dish for the hearty meal. This is my idea of comfort food for all seasons/all weather.
