Saturday House Cafe located along upper paya lebar road, easily catches the attention of passer-bys with its bright signage among all the old shop houses. Not located in the busiest or hippest district in town, but it definitely has its own charm to attract their customers. Something simple for their decoration and lights are kept dim at certain area for some relaxing moments.Bacon Cheese Mushrooms ($10): Tiny bits of bacon mixed with cheese topped on a button mushroom and deep fried after bread

Bacon Cheese Mushrooms ($10): Tiny bits of bacon mixed with cheese topped on a button mushroom and deep fried after breaded with crumbs. Appearance brings much anticipation, but the first bite results in much disappointment. Nothing too fanciful, overall taste is a little too light and plain. It’s the feeling of i am just eating a breaded button mushroom, i can make do without the cheese and bacon. If the taste of cheese and bacon comes in stronger, i think it will be a better combination. But i must say i quite like the breaded coating for the mushroom. It’s nice.

Prawn Arrabiata ($14.90): Tomato based pasta served with crunchy fresh prawns. Flavor was good and pasta texture was done well.

Grilled Pork Collar ($18.90): Char grilled pork collar served with baked potato and a garden salad. Surprisingly, the pork collar is done well. The meat is tender, succulent and juicy. Though it may be a little light on its taste. We kept thinking that they might have forgotten the black pepper sauce that we have chosen it for its dressing, but since the meat tasted good on its own, we didnt went to clarify for the sauce either.

Marmite mid joint wings ($8): How often do we see marmite in our meals nowadays! In my memory, i used to eat marmite with porridge when i was very young. A unique marination used for the chicken wings. Crispy and juicy wings with a little salti-sh-sweet flavor.

Macadamia nut brownie ($): We wanted to order their lava cake, but it was sold out. So the waiter recommended us their brownie. Indeed it was a good choice made. The brownie was warm, moist and dense. Not too sweet too. The chocolate chips enhances the overall chocolatey flavor while the nuts balance out the sinful-ness of the brownie.
Dining experience was a great one. Friendly and helpful service. Simple and fresh ingredients used for their dishes. Outlook of cafe and presentation of dishes may not be that outstanding, but the creative use of ingredients, flavor and taste of dishes definitely make up for it.
