Canele is among one of my favourite to-go place for the macarons. After having dinner with my friends at Plaza Singapura, I decided to drop by the Canele branch here to buy some macarons and a piece of cake to takeaway.

The place was nicely decorated and felt very spacious. I loved that the display counter was placed facing the outside so that I could just order over the counter without entering the restaurant (it also made stalking the cakes easier). There was a variety of cakes and macarons in the display counter and the labeling signs also listed the ingredients of the confections which I thought was very informative and useful.

I initially ordered Opera as there was one left when I was there, but while the guy was going to pack it for me, a dine-in customer ordered it and they decided to give the last piece to the dine-in customer instead. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with the service.

I ended up getting the Triple Chocolate Cheesecake and the macarons to go.

Triple Chocolate Cheesecake ($7.00)
This was bittersweet with walnut bits for the added crunch. The base was slightly dry but the cheesecake portion was pretty nice. The part I liked most was the chocolate ganache which was silky smooth, rich and chocolatey. Overall, this was quite decent.

Macarons ($11.50 for Box of 6)
Canele has one of the best macarons I've tried among a few others. I got the Hazelnut, Feuilletine, Rose, Chocolate Noir, Fleur De Sel Caramel and Cookies & Cream flavours. The shells were very crispy with a chewy inside and the filling portion was quite thick. I liked that these macarons were not overly sweet and the individual flavours were generally discernible enough. My favourite flavour of all was Chocolate Noir, which was bittersweet. I also liked the Cookie and Cream. Hazelnut was quite light in taste but it was still pretty decent, but Feuilletine felt a tiny wee bit sour, as was Rose. On the other hand, the Fleur De Sel Caramel was a little too salty for me.

These macarons cost $2.50 per piece, which I supposed was expected with an establishment like Canele. It is definitely more value for money to get a box of 6 for only $11.50 or 12 pieces for $21.50. The macarons are definitely a must try and I'll certainly be back again at the other Canele branches for the macarons!
