These pineapple tarts are notoriously hard to get, especially as the CNY season approaches. People pre-order a huge amount of tarts months before. LE Cafe will only take orders but not sell them directly to walk in customers during CNY period. BTW LE Cafe is also famous for their soya beancurd tart which is awesome! We managed to book a few bottles a few months ago at $20 per bottle. 1 bottle contains about 20 pieces of pineapple tarts. Prices will rise like bak kwa if you order closer to the CN
So what is the big fuss about these pineapple tarts (or pineapple balls/nuggets since they are shaped that way) They are actually just grossly oversized pineapple tarts. It's hard to pop the whole piece into your mouth. (I would usually cut it into half and share with someone). But everything else is almost done right. The pineapple fillings were good and generous. A tad too sweet. The pineapple fillings are encased in soft, crumbly pastry which compliment the pineapple fillings. They are so good, but it's too big and you will probably need to take at least two bites of each "ball" to properly savour it's goodness.If you are desperate to get your hands on one of these bottle, do try going to their less crowded branch at Veerasamy Road where they might be able to sell you a bottle or two extra orders not claimed by anyone.
