Eskimo is honestly my favourite bubble tea shop ever, and I have not patronised Koi or Gongcha ever since I tried this. This time, instead of my usual favourite Pudding Milk Tea ($3.50 for some insanely awesome concoction) I decided to try the Jiufen Taro Balls. Why the sudden interest? I just tried Blackball's version and was curious how Eskimo would fare in the same dessert. Turns out, it was a little different. Eskimo is honestly my favourite bubble tea shop ever, and I have not patronised Koi or Gongcha ever since I tried this. This time, instead of my usual favourite Pudding Milk Tea ($3.50 for some insanely awesome concoction) I decided to try the Jiufen Taro Balls. Why the sudden interest? I just tried Blackball's version and was curious how Eskimo would fare in the same dessert. Turns out, it was a little different.
To introduce what the ingredients in there are - they include sweet potato balls, taro balls, pearls and ice-shavings (red bean option available with top-ups). While it might pale in comparison in terms of amount and variety of ingredients than Blackball, I am impressed and surprised by the amount of ingredients they gave. There were lots of taro and sweet potato balls!!! I kept fishing them out of the bowl just as I thought they were all gone. Definitely impressed. Chewiness-wise... it's stickier than chewy, in fact quite similar to the original ones. But I like it to be chewy so no point being similar to the original ones. The flavouring of the balls is rather faint, but if you concentrate you'll taste it.
It costs $3.90.
I must say that the service at this branch really sucks even though I like the Pudding Milk Tea a lot. I was willing to battle against their bad service for the last few times. This time, somehow the menu on the counter doesn't reflect what they really offer and so they pointed to the pictures on the wall to ask me to choose which one I wanted - with obvious impatience. (They didn't even have other customers!)
Later, their ice machine kind of broke down and they took a super long time to make the dessert - more than 15 minutes. Luckily I had a seat so I was fine with the waiting time. After that, before I could finish my dessert in peace, they asked me to get up and leave because someone else was waiting for the seat. Like, hello, I'm your customer too.
I was really pissed off with the attitude they had. Next time I'll go to other branches.
