Out of sheer curiosity on how good these xiao long baos are, I visited Canteen 1 to try out their xiao long baos today. Everyone's been raving about how good they are, so here's my verdict on them. 6 of them for $3.50. I prefer their dumplings a lot better. Maybe I've eaten a lot of xiao long baos and this pales in comparison, but really, if you're here, go for the dumplings and not the xiao long baos. Why, you might ask, since they are THE famous xiao long baos. If you look at the pictures, you can see quite clearly out of 6 of those, 5 have already broken out of its skin. The skin is too thin to hold in the soup. For xiao long baos, it is the most crucial part to have thin skin and contain the soup. But apparently these failed Luckily I had a plate underneath, otherwise the table would have flooded!
The taste is the part about them that stood out, it is really quite delicious. The soup was also very rich and yummy, only if most of it wasn't drained away from the baos. I would say that it's quite disappointing and if I come back, I'll eat the dumplings instead which were much better.
