Perfect Brunch Place in Singapore
Riders Café
2013-10-27
I had to wait for an hour just to get a seat in this place and normally I'm pretty smugged already when that happens. This place though is a champ. I didn't expect the bendiicts to be that good (note: they had to redo the order as the eggs were over cooked but when they good it right... my God was it perfect)! The shepherd's pie was also good but I did wish I ordered something else afterwards as there was nothing special about it. I have my eyes on the French toast that most tables were ordering....I loved the Salty Caramel Brioche! Anyone who visits this place should order this without fail. Pair it with a nice strong coffee and boom you'll have your perfect weekend! Please visit my blog for a full review: http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/10/riders-cafe-bukit-timah-saddle-club.html…Read More

Good ramen but avoid the dons
Men-Ichi
2013-10-20
Had lunch at Men-Ichi as we had a full promo card from Ichiban group of companies. We had gyoza, kanitama (omelette with mushroom), char siew don, and miso ramen. Every was ok except the char siew don. If this was not a promo item, then I would have asked them to send it back to the kitchen and just change it to something different. It was just pathetic. You can easily get better char siew topping in a food court compared to this. The pork was dry and flaky. Everything else though was ok. The miso ramen is hard to fault though I'd imagine some people wanting it to be a tad bit less salty. Nevertheless, the pork, egg, and broth made this dish satisfying. Its not a head blown away type of ramen but its good enough. The gyoza was like any other gyoza you'd have in a so so japanese restaurant. In fairness, I've really had bad gyoza and at least Men-Ichi isn't included in the list of horrible gyoza (How can you ruin gyoza????) The kanitama was a bit of a surprise. Its basically egg omelette with light teriyaki sauce on top. This is a sample of simple dishes making a big impression. I'll be ordering this for sure the next time I'm in this restaurant. …Read More

A Disappointing Malaysian Treat.
Madam Kwan's
2013-09-15
When I went to Madam Kwan's, there was quite an expectation as there were some good reviews about the branches Malaysia. It seemed people in Singapore would go out of their way to go to Malaysia just to go to this place. Unfortunately, if Madam Kwan in Malaysia is that good, then they would need to go there still as this outlet is just disappointing. We ordered Nasi Bojari ($18.90), Beef Rendang ($11.90), and Satay ($11.90). The food isn't that bad but the problem is that some Nasi Lemak places can out cook them and charge way less than the prices here. There is no creativity in plating. I plate my buffet plate better than them. The only redeeming factor was the satay sauce but the beef satay was dry and tough. The beef rendang was ok but not worth $11.90Won't be going back here...…Read More

Nam Nam = Yum Yum
NamNam Noodle Bar
2013-09-15
I normally don't crave for Vietnamese food, but Nam Nam Noodle house changed that. I love restaurants with simple menus and NamNam is a good example of this. The first must try is the Bahn Mi. My choice was the Caramelized Pork. The only think that I wished for in this dish is that it should have more pork and vegetables. The next must try is their Pho. Any would do its just your preference but I would recommend trying the mixed beef as it has the best of what NamNam has to offer. For full review and more photos, please visit http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/09/namnam-raffles-city.html.…Read More

Tonkatsu Ma Maison (2nd visit)
Tonkatsu by Ma Maison @ Mandarin Gallery
2013-09-14
The last time that I visited Tonkatsu Ma Maison was almost a year ago. Little has changed within that time. They still serve you fresh radish where you pour a little of soy sauce before your meal. Each set comes with rice (either white or brown but brown is highly recommended), soup (special miso soup), and shredded cabbage. These are of course free flowing. They also serve freshly crushed sesame seeds but I prefer the style of Tonkichi. I ordered Mangalica Tonkatsu (supposed to be the creme de la creme of pork) and well it was pork. I was waiting for a magic Kobe moment but it didn't occur. For full review and more photos, please visit http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/09/tonkatsu-ma-maison-2nd-visit.html …Read More

Craving for Little Fuji
St.Marc Cafe
2013-08-01
St. Marc Cafe. Say it again. St Marc Cafe. Now remember and find it. Once you find it, order a Green Tea Latte and a Little Fuji. Now lets see you forget St. Marc Cafe :) The Little Fuji is a crunchy danish pastry (more like a croissant) topped with soft vanilla ice cream. They warm up the danish pastry first and drizzle it with caramel. The Choco Banana Fuji is almost the same but they just used chocolate drizzle and added banana slices. I prefer the Little Fuji but and of these two will make you crave for more. Pair any of these with the green tea latte and you will be in dessert heaven. Its really that good. I won't lie, some people may find it too sweet or fattening but give this a chance and let me know. Warning though, bring a little (or maybe a lot) of patience. The queue can get very bad and one of their signature dishes (the chococro) has a very high demand. The result: the queue is long and waiting for it can take longer. During this time the wait for choco cro was 1.5 hours. And yes some people waited. Why? because it's worth it. If you do order the choco cro try the strawberry flavor as well. I personally liked it better.I urge everyone to try this. You won't be disappointed.…Read More

Good Italian Food But Nothing Fantastic
Jamie's Italian
2013-07-21
Jamie Oliver is one of the more popular chefs around. Though he may not be a culinary legend such as Ramsay, Tetsuya, Morimoto, and Puck, his shows has probably propelled him to be more of a celebrity than the ones that I have mentioned. So is Jamie's Italian a fantastic, filling, and excellent Italian restaurant? No. Is it a flop? Of course not. So what is it? I would say its good food. The problem with celebrity chef restaurants is that the hype and expectation is so high that there is a big chance of guests expecting magical food to be presented to them. And here lies the problem with Jamie's Italian, its nothing fantastic and yet the price you pay makes you want to feel it is fantastic.Meat Plank - $15: This is Jamie's take on meat cold cuts and had a piece of prosciutto, pistachio mortadella, bresaola, and spicy soppressata. It also had buffalo mozzarella, pecorino (with chilli jam) and beet root salad. This was actually yummy but my only angst was that it should had a bit more. Maybe 2 slices of each item?Bread Basket - $6Jamie's Italian Burger - $27.50Wild Mushroom Ravioli - $16: I'm a fan of ravioli and I can say that this is good. But that is the issue, it was only good. I should be saying thinks like fantastic or mind blowing or even original but unfortunately its none of those. We should have order the risotto. The other table ordered it and it looked more interesting and appetizing. For full review and more photos, please visit http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/07/jamies-italian-vivocity.html…Read More

BBQ Pork Buns to Remember
Tim Ho Wan
2013-06-02
So, it was a Friday night and my good friend Mike is in town. Wifey also left the office a bit early, since it's "Eat with Family Day" and this was a good combination to try out Tim Ho Wan. One of the things you will experience when dining here is waiting in their monstrous queue. For a table of 5, wifey had to wait for 2 hours. Yup 2 hours just to queue. Good thing though is that once you are in, service is prompt and food is served quite fast + the food is rewarding. For the full review, please visit my blog at: http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/06/tim-ho-wan-plaza-singapura-4-out-of-5.html…Read More

VivoCity's Gem of a Chinese Restaurant
Dian Xiao Er
2013-05-26
When you are in VivoCity and have a craving for fine Chinese food don't look any further than Dian Xiao Er. The food we had was very good even the braised lettuce dish which seemed to be too simple to be good is very very good. The herbal duck is the restaurant's specialty but the other dishes deserve their own credit. Please read my full review at http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/05/dian-xiao-er-vivo-city.html…Read More

New Sushi Express @ Somerset
Sushi Plus
2013-05-21
Sushi Express had a good promo last weekend (May 19). Each dish in the conveyor belt was priced at $1.00. I was surprised that they had a good variety and was consistently putting different products in the belt. We got scallops, abalone, salmon, shrimp (cooked and semi cooked). Its actually the first time that I have eaten in Sushi Express and I've seen some bad reviews of other branches. I hope that they are able to keep up the quality like in this branch and not only because its new.For the full review, please visit my blog at: http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/05/sushi-express-313-somerset.html…Read More

Mediocre Curry
Coco Ichibanya
2013-05-21
We were suppose to have lunch today in Tonkichi @ Orchard Central but due to some time difficulties we decided to have a quick lunch in 313@Somerset. It was a toss between Popeye's Chicken and Curry House CoCo Ichibanya. Guess who won. CoCo as far as I know is quite popular. There were several occasions where we visited the vicinity and there was a queue outside. Today, however, there was no queue. Just a few tables were occupied. Why? I think its because of a new restaurant that had an opening promo of $1 per sashimi/sushi dish. But more on that later. For the full review please visit my blog: http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/05/curry-house-coco-ichibanya-313-somerset.html…Read More

Our Favorite Chinese Restuarant
Paradise Dynasty
2013-05-18
Paradise Dynasty is an excellent restaurant. Be sure to visit this place and order their Xiao Long Bao and La Mian noodles. My favorite is the spicy beef brisket. Though I think some people may find it a tad bit too spicy, I find it just right for my taste. The beef is soft and juicy. The multi-colored XLB is a gimmick in my opinion but their original XLB and garlic flavoured ones are the best that I had so far. Please visit my blog at http://lvfoodhaven.blogspot.sg/2013/05/paradise-dynasty-ion-orchard.html for a full review.…Read More
