Fantastic local fare
Qiji
2011-03-25
I love to have local fare for my brunch every Sunday with my boyfriend after our church session. This is "THE" place for us... Authentic and yummy local fare...The most "popular" food for both of us would be:1. Nasi Lemak Fragrant Coconut Rice topped with lots of crispy ikan bilis, peanuts, and a juicy soft sunny side up egg. What I love best was their crispy fried chicken and of course not forgetting the delicious spicy sambal chilli...2. Laska topped with extra cocklesThick gravy paired with big soft "tau pok" and extra cockles really make the entire trip to this place worth it... 3. Ice MiloLastly, this is the drink that I must have when I am here...The milo is very thick with reasonable amount of ice, hence the milo is not diluted at all....and it is GOOD!!!!Good food that is value for money.…Read More

Crystal grade dim sum
Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen
2011-03-18
Went Crystal Jade @ GWC for lunch this afternoon with my colleagues.. Lunch was "fantabulous" and all of us enjoyed it.We ordered a lot of food today and i feel "obligated" to recommend some of the highlights:1. Rice Roll with Shrimp - Best Rice Roll that I have ever eaten in Singapore. I love the soft, smooth texture of the rice roll wrapped around the sweet shrimp and drench with tasty sauce. It just "melts" in my mouth.2. Plain Noodle Soup - Simplicity is the best... Springy noodles with green vegetables in hot pork bone broth taste awesome.3. Baby Kailan with Oyster Sauce - Fresh, Juicy, Crunchy and Healthy. Yummy!4. Ginseng Soup - What a nourishing n rejuvenating soup! This is a "must try" soup. Very flavourful, chockful of ingredients. The stock is pretty powerful, almost like chicken essence. 5. Mango Pudding - Sweet delicate smooth texture. The delicate flavour of mango pudding makes it a popular finale after every meal.…Read More

Big Juicy Prawns
Albert Street Prawn Noodle
2011-03-17
As usual, I will head down to Lavender food court every Wednesday for supper after my night class without fail... The prawn noodles is one of the "must have dish" in my list every time when i'm here.I simply love prawns! Hence whenever I see a store selling prawn noodle, i will go for it. And I have created my own list of "best" prawn noodles in Spore. And apparently this store has made it to my list!I love the clay-pot prawn noodles soup. Serving in a clay-pot gives the "sizzling, hot boiling" effect and makes the food look more appetizing. The jumbo juicy prawns is the key especially the prawn head. The juice simply ooze out when you "suck" it... Yummy! Not forgetting the essence of the broth which is cooked with a lot of prawn heads and pork bone in it, whereby the taste lingers in your mouth even after you finish it.For those who like it spicy, top it with lots of chilli powder and pair it with sambal chilli... the result: Fanstastic... *lick thumb*....I strongly recommend that you try it if you are there.…Read More

Authentic Fish Soup
Teochew Fish Porridge
2011-03-16
I go to Lavender Food Square once a month after my night class. And I will always go for the fish soup. I find that the taste is "authentic" , tasty and delicious.I love it because they add in a lot of bitter gourd, seaweed and vegetables into the soup which makes it healthy and tasty. The fish meat is also very very fresh hence it is a must try if you are there...Thumbs up!…Read More

Nice Korean food at an affordable price
Daebak Korean Restaurant
2011-03-16
I have my lunch at this Korean restaurant almost 2-3 times per week as I am working nearby. Nice yummy Korean food at an affordable price....Some of the dishes that I would recommend if you are there for lunch or dinner:1. Sizzling Hot plate Spicy Chicken Set - recommended for peeps who can take spicy food. Tender chicken marinated in spicy sauce increases your appetite. A wonderful dish to go with white fragrant rice.2. Seafood Ramen - Recommended for ladies as the portion is not too big. The texture of the ramen is springy and the soup is really delicious as it does not contain a lot of msg in it.3. Chapagetti - Korean Spaghetti??!!! I guess they are trying to say that it is a blend of Chajang and Spaghetti...?!! This dish is traditionally served with ground beef or pork and a slightly sweet sauce made with black bean paste. The flavor was surprisingly mild but it tasted like the right kind of korean flavor spaghetti.Overall, I would recommend that you pop in to try this restaurant if you're there...…Read More

Food Standard dropped :-(((
C.Nai Hong Kong Cafe Express
2011-03-16
Six months ago, I used to visit this C. Nai HongKong Cafe Express at least 3-5 times a week for dinner or supper. Food standard was superb and the staff were friendly and courteous. I have since stopped doing so 2 months back when i realized that their food standard had dropped tremendously. Well, I came here today with my boyfriend again hoping that we would find some "surprises"... However, it failed us again. We tried some of their famous / star dishes and our comments as follows:1. The famous XO Fried Carrot Cake was a disappointment. I would describe it as "tasteless, hard, and oily". It had lost the flavor that it used to be.2. Their Wanton noodles were dry and hard. It could be due to the lack of sauce and the noodles were not cooked thoroughly.3. Their lychee tea was tasteless and lack of the Lychee flavor in it. ( I had tasted better Lychee Tea in other Hongkong cafe here).4. Curry fish ball. The curry is too thick and the dish is not served hot.Given all of the above, the poor service of the staff further expressed our disappointment in them. I guess it could be our last visit to this cafe...…Read More
