Extremely Disappointed
King Pot Steamboat
2012-12-10
Had heard about the opening of a new steamboat establishment via openrice's edm and being an avid steamboat lover, I finally decided to try it out.In summary, the overall steamboat experience was an utter letdown, for the following reasons:1. The sauces available were simply a joke. There was only vinegar, chopped chilli padi, chopped spring onions, chopped parsley and 1 other which I can't remember what it was. There was NO light soy sauce or chilli sauce at all, we had to ask the waitress for it and she took a while to return with 1 sauce tray of light soy sauce and a small pump of bottled "maggi" chilli sauce.2. Fish head soup base was very fishy.3. Wild mushroom soup base was a tad salty.4. Food menu is acceptable with the usual steamboat items available but seriously, it doesn't make sense to comment on the food since they are served uncooked in original form.5. Price = Disgustingly steep for the quality! Our S$125 bill includes: 2 individual soup bases, 8 tiger prawns, pork collar, chicken, chef vegetable platter, sea cucumber, enoki mushroom, fish slices, and a pot of chinese tea.6. Trival shortcomings include: no wet tissue and no separate spoon other than the small metal scoop provided to scoop out your cooked food (but I supposed it's meant for dua use). For an establishment to provide steamboat as its themed cuisine, King Pot doens't understand and wasn't able to provide the prerequisites needed to offer an enjoyable steamboat meal. Will not return and will not recommend anyone to try it.…Read More

The Bark Café
2012-09-24
Seeing the huge carpark driveway in front of the cafe was a nice start. The cafe was quietly tucked away from all the hustle and bustles. There's only a few lots for cars, the rest are meant for coaches if I'm not wrong as the cafe is also right next to the Chapel and Museum. We had:1) The infamous fried chicken wings: good fleshy ones with har cheong (shrimp paste) seasoning (i suspect!). They were crispy and yummy to the last bite!2) Sambal prawns: too salty even for someone like me who likes salty food. 1 each is enough as it is rather yummy.3) Prawn and mussel aglio olio: generous serving of seafood but the spag was undercooked.4) Crayfish horfun: much raved about online but it tasted normal but at 4 times a hawker price.5) Beef stew: too tough.6) Tiramisu and Brownie: probably the most satisfying dishes of all (besides the chic wings of cos). They comes with a yummy scoop of choc chip ice cream too!Overall, the ambience and setting was alright. The place is non air-conditioned but the natural air is just nice for comfort, considering that we had chilled out for a good 2.5hrs there! If you've ever going to Bark Cafe, make sure you order the chicken wings!! yums~…Read More

Medicore food at steep prices
The Coastal Settlement
2012-09-21
Was wowed by a friend's description of the cafe and decided to check it out for dinner. Lovely ambience with fixtures and decor that's totally towards my liking for all things quaint and old-school. However, the food was definitely not up to expectation for its prices. We had the 2 dfferent types of soup, codfish fish and chips, fried chicken, sausage rosti and waygu burger. The codfish was totally off the mark. Because of the fact that it was codfish, we went for it despite the slightly steep price for a fish and chip dish, expecting it to be better than the typical one. It was tasteless! We could not even finish it despite us being people who do not adovcate food wastage. It was so bad we had to ask the waiter if they were sure it was codfish and he fumbled for awhile before replying us that it was codfish from some atlantic ocean -_- The fried chicken failed to deliver as a main dish as it was dry and not flavourful beyond its skin. The only dish that was satisfactory on a nomal expectation is the sausage rosti. We do not mind steep prices for good food but this was just very, very disappointing. Hope that the restaurant could review its food quality so as not to let its commendable efforts on the decor/restaurant setup go to waste, it is afterall a very lovely place to chill out at.If you intend to check it the ambience here, would recommend brunch so you have a lower priced menu at risk, and there'll be a nice amt of daylight for some nice photo-taking. …Read More
