1st & most likely last visit
Kkongdon Barbeque
2013-07-31
I dare not say I've visited many authentic Korean BBQ restaurants in Singapore but compared to the few restaurants I've had the opportunity to visit that was open & run by Koreans and having tried some while in Korea, this place is a disappointment. We ordered their lunch Set A which consisted of beef + pork meat + kimchi soup + rice + couple of free flow side dish.Free flow plain water comes at $0.30 per person/glassLunch order hr: 11.30am - 2.30pm1st disappointment: KimchiThumbs down for this free flow side dish. Not only is it not spicy at all, and I mean really it pales in comparison with the sweetest chilli sauce, it was tasteless. There isn't anything authentic or even remotely similar to what kimchi is. Saving grace: Sweet potato, lotus, bean sprout (really love this) & their fluffy white rice cooked just to the right softness. The serving of the whole set is more than enough to fill our tummy to the brim so there's no need to worry about the seemingly small portion of meat served.Their kimchi soup was much much better and the sauces they provided were our favourite among all other things. Don't be shy to ask for a refill shld ur sauce run out as they don't charge extra.Service standard & staff attitude: Sunday lunch crowd with around 3 waiters/waitresses.We had a little accident and poured some plain water on the table, wanting to get staff to provide cloth or even better help clean up the slight mess but none of the staff was attentive enough to notice us. Lunch order officially stops at 2.30pm and we were not informed of any need to clear the place, only asked to settle bill around 3pm first as their cashier is closing, other than that we continued at our pace barbecuing till around 4pm (Note: we only entered the place at nearing 2.30pm and it takes a while for food to be served so give or take its about 1 & 1/2 hour of chit chatting and enjoying a Sunday gathering.) They are newly opened and so we were given promotional $10 voucher upon next visit.…Read More

Beach Road Outlet
8 degrees
2013-07-31
Went to their Beach Road outlet for lunch. This is my 1st visit to the 8degrees chain of eatries.Ambience was pretty nice and staff service are fast and prompt even with the office lunch crowd.Ordered Chicken cutlet ramen ($9.80), Cold noodle ($5.80), 8* Bubble tea ($3.80), and Rose milk tea ($4.80).Their ramen portion is huge and equivalent to 2 ladies portion with fried cutlet served separately on a plate. It was crispy and pretty tender and juicy, soup is just plain chicken stock coupled with bouncy noodles taiwan cuisine is famous for.Their cold noodle uses the very same noodle type tossed with same sauce and fresh veggy. It's a simple dish and pretty small in size so some may not find it adequate to fill the tummy. The restaurant also offer lunch set meal which are nicely pack in train bento style packaging. Have yet to try but sure looks tempting. Bubble tea wise was quite disappointed. The rose milk tea was simply adding bandung syrup with milk... Not that worth it to be honest.Their 8* milk tea was relatively normal/acceptable leaning towards sweet-very sweet. We were not asked on sugar level thus assumed it was not allowed. With affordable prices and abv avg dishes, I would surely want to visit again some time soon. …Read More

Prawn noodle vs Laksa
3rd Generation Laksa, Prawn noodles - Food Republic
2013-07-29
Ordered a bowl of prawn rib noodle and laksa.Service standard so-so, staff rudely cut-off while I was halfway stating my order and have to repeat couple times. There was no queue but food was served pretty quickly.Funny thing though the prawn noodle was only served 1 and a half prawn sliced in half each while laksa was given 3 full prawn. And the prawn soup base tasted more like pork rib soup instead of the usual expected sweet taste of prawn with a tinge of red.Laksa soup, on the other hand, is pretty good and better than average. It is thick and brew with ample heibee, simple but lingers around your tongue and makes u crave for more.…Read More

Lunch Takeaway
Pho Hanoi
2013-07-29
Ordered a Grilled chicken and spring roll for late lunch.Service is exceptionally slow considering there is no crowd at all, you gotta be patience and willing to wait for 15mins or more for a single set meal. Both visit yielded same pace of serving. And hopefully the chef would be more careful and not have another incident of dropping plastic in food to be served.Their food though are delicious. The grilled chicken is cooked just nice with a nice layer of crisp and sauce provided (peanut sauce and sweet & sour sauce) complimented the pho and chicken. Spring roll is a healthy version of pho + fresh cooked prawn also complimented with same sauces.Food is delicious but service standard left much to be desired. …Read More

XO Fish Meat Bee Hoon
XO Fish Head Bee Hoon
2013-06-28
Relatively new eatery at neighbourhood area. Their soup is thick in flavour and really does smell of XO. It used to be $5.50/6.50 but prices have gone up to $9.00. Still, its the best fish meat bee hoon I have ever tried so far. Servings are large and fried fish slices are big coated with only a very thin layer of frying powder, unlike the common fish meat where there is hardly any meat aside from thick-as-hell coating.Must try: Coffee pork rib, prawn paste chicken. Both are slightly better than normal zi char standard and their pork rib is really tender and well marinated. If only the price had remained at food court range I would love to patronise again. They don't charge extra service charge for dining in but $0.50 for takeaways.…Read More
