Must tries : Chirashi Don & Sashimi
Tenryu Dining & Teahouse
2013-04-21
For full review and pictures, please visit :http://www.strictlyours.com/2013/04/tenryu-dining-tea-house.html1)Swordfish sashimi (5 pieces) - $15Salmon sashimi (5 pieces) - $10Slices of fresh and juicy sashimi. Great start to the meal!2)Soft Shell Crab - $10The really crispy soft shell crab didn't quite live up to expectations. Not only were they really small, they barely had any meat in them. And they lacked fragrance and sweetness.3)Chirashi Don - $20The chirashi don was put together prettily with the rice being surrounded and covered by pieces of sashimi. Topped with ikura and accompanied with sweet tamago, this was my favourite item of the night.4)Yakiniku Bento Set - $18The thin pieces of beef were soft and infused with the sauce that they came in. Along with the bento set is a bowl of tasty homemade miso soup that you can easily differentiate from those made from instant mixes.5)Chawanmushi - $5The chawanmushi was a little on the bland side but I liked the chewy and soft mushrooms6)Peach Jelly - $5This was supposedly made only when the chef has the time and it's his specialty. We were advised and encouraged to try it. It was basically sweet jelly with a relatively large piece of peach which, we guessed, was soaked in a sparkling liquid or something.…Read More

Must tries : Rose Macaron and Ghana Chocolate Maca
Ladurée
2013-04-21
For full review and pictures, please visit :http://www.strictlyours.com/2013/04/laduree_16.htmlBox of 12 - $45.60Gold Leafed Macaron - $7.60Our favourite flavours are the Ghana chocolate and the rose!Unless you really want to eat the gold leaves, we recommend that you skip the chocolate macaron with gold leaves because the leaves are tasteless and the chocolate macaron is highly similar to the classic chocolate macarons…Read More

Must tries: Char Siew Bao & Siew Mai
Tim Ho Wan
2013-04-21
For full review and pictures, please visit : http://www.strictlyours.com/2013/04/tim-ho-wan.html1) Baked Bun with BBQ Pork (3 pieces) - $4.50These slightly crisp, relatively thin and delectably soft buns are filled with a sweet and generous filling that carried hints of chinese wine. I really love the texture of the buns! It's no wonder why these buns are so famous. They are terrific! The most magical char siew bao ever haha2)Prawn Dumplings - $5.50Fat, juicy and fresh prawns encased in a thin skin that were pretty satisfying.3)Spring Roll with Egg White - $4.20The spring rolls looked promising and they were lightly fried and very crispy. Loud crunches could be heard when we all bit into the spring rolls but disappointment hit us soon after as the tasteless egg white touched our palates.4)Pan Fried Carrot Cake - $4.50Even though there were several small pieces of meat present, they didn't add much taste to the bland carrot cake. 5)Pork Dumpling with Shrimp - $5This was my second favourite dish of the lot! The big chunk of pork, mushroom and shrimp mixture was chewy, delicious and outstanding. I don't really like siewmais but I have to admit that these were really good!6)Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp - $5.50This is a must-have for me whenever I have dimsum! The ones at Tim Ho Wan were delightfully crispy and the small bits of vegetables which are embedded in the rolls provided a slight bitter edge when you bite into them7)Beancurd Skin Roll with Pork and Shrimp - $4This was the first time that I'm trying this dish and I thought it was pretty decent8)Vermicelli Roll with Pig's Liver - $5.50I'm not a fan of pig's liver but I have to say that I actually liked this one! The pieces of pig's liver were extremely soft and they do not really possess the strong "iron/metal" taste!9)Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp - $5.50The vermicelli roll had quite a good portion of shrimp in them. We could have used a little more sauce though!10) Jelly like blocks with a strong floral and herbal taste that didn't quite tickle my taste buds 11)Yam Puree with Sago (Hot) - $3.50The texture of the yam puree was not what I had expected it to be. It was more like yam-water or something. It was super fluid and the taste of yam was minimal and it seemed like the dessert was diluted.…Read More

BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE IN SINGAPORE
Truffs
2013-04-08
For full review and pictures, please visit : http://www.strictlyours.com/2013/04/truffs.html1) Truff's Signature Hot Cocoa - $6.52) Iced Chocolate - $7.50Velvety smooth chocolate with dark chocolate bits. Best chocolate drink ever? Damn straight.3)Truffs' Earl Grey Chocolate Tart - $7Very rich and smooth ganache carrying a subtle earl grey hint and topped with crunchy bits! Yummy! Having every mouthful melt slowly in my mouth is... indescribable.4) Truffs' Chocolate cake - $11The fluffy light sponge just puts a grin on your face. It's not overly rich and you will never get sick of this cake! This tall cake has managed to get the delicate balance of ganache and sponge right! It's really the best chocolate cake in Singapore! Haha. It's a really good idea for Truffs to finally have a cafe and sell individual slices of their signature cake because if not, I can only eat it if I buy a whole cake!…Read More

Love the salted egg yolk icecream!
Tom's Palette
2013-04-08
For full review and pictures, please visit : http://www.strictlyours.com/2013/04/toms-palette.html1) Salted Egg Yolk Icecream & Salted Caramel Cheesecake Icecream - $3 (after student discount)This might not be the best combination as both flavours are salty but the salted egg yolk icecream is really awesome!…Read More

One of the best meals I've had
Gunther's
2013-04-01
For full review and pictures, please visit : http://www.strictlyours.com/2013/04/gunthers.htmlRestaurant Week 20131)Cold Angel Hair Pasta, Tomato, Mozzarella, HamA simpler rendition of their signature Cold Angel Hair Pasta, Oscietra Caviar. Even without the caviar, this dish was delicious right down to the last strand. Cold and springy pasta with paper-thin savory ham and chewy small blocks of mozzarella, heaven was never closer. Quite a generous portion for a starter but it was definitely insufficient! We were all craving for more!2) Pan-roasted Foie Gras, "a la dragees" (additional $15)Perfectly roasted and tantalizing foie gras that is topped with crunchy almond bits. The almond complemented the roasted foie gras so well and enhanced the taste of the lightly crisp and melt-in-your-mouth slab of happiness.3)Pork Ribs, Provencale StyleA giant piece of pork rib coupled with extremely delicious tomato omu rice. The tomato omu rice was rich and tasty with hints of spices that do not overwhelm your tastebuds. Every bite of the pork rib was joy and you really can't help but relish it. Brilliant and impeccable. 4) Grilled Brittany Cod Fish, Couscous of vegetablesThe cod fish pales a little in comparison to the pork ribs in terms of its portion and taste. The fresh cod fish was delicious with the creamy mushroom based sauce that it was partnered with. It does not leave as strong an impression as the pork ribs though!5)English Breakfast Tea Bavarois, Salty CaramelThe pudding like Bavarois sits in a lemongrass infused sauce that tasted a little too strong on its own but was immaculate with the bavarois and the oh-so-good salty caramel. I took really long to eat this as I savoured every mouthful. Pure goodness.6) Petit FoursThe thin almond cracker was fragrant and crunchy and the dark chocolate praline was really good. The madelaine was buttery and plain and probably the least outstanding but it was a simple end to the meal…Read More
