A CharlyT's Food Adventure
Charly T's
2011-02-20
I’ve been to Dhoby Ghaut plenty of times and each time I walked past CharlyT’s, I’ve always thought it was just another Western cafe/bistro/restaurant. And to add to that, I didn’t even know the place was called NOMU. But nevermind that, as for CharlyT’s it is not just your regualr Western cuisine joint, but rather a doorway into a selection of International Cuisine that Charly himself experienced while he was globetrotting throughout the continents when he was younger. And to start off a weekend treat, CharlyT’s presented the Spanish Omelette ($8.50). Only available on Weekends and Public Holidays from 9am to Noon, the Spanish Omelette wafted a light savoury fragrance as it was served. Accompanied by fried potatoes and toppings of tomato and chunky spam, this is tastily eaten with the side of crispy dilly bread made from dill and cottage cheese. Its hard to go wrong with a fragrant omelette and oh do ask for a serving of cream cheese to spread all around that piece of toast. Perhaps the most obvious dish would be the CharlyT's Famous Rotisserie Chicken. With up to 12 chicken being roasted rotisserie style at any one time in the chicken, wafts of marinated crispling roasty poultry is sure to slowly make its way to diners. Each chicken is marinated for over 10 hours in a mix of herbs, spices and sauces and thereafter roasted for a good 50 minutes before served. The result? Juicy chicken with flavours well seeped through and a skin that is a medley of savoury, pepperish and slightly honeyed tones. It was the best dish for the day. And it comes in Quarter, Halves and the whole bird ($13; 2 sauces 2 sides,$24; 3 sauces 3 sides ,$42; 4 sauces 4 sides) This ORTU foodie session was so filling that I probably was too stuffed to even have another meal after that. Dishes like the Sesame Terriyaki Chicken Wrap and the New Orleans Beef Salad are also must trys.Charly T's is a place for an introduction into flavours from places around the world, and its dishes can be a good conversation starter for any table. Enchanting, Affordable Japanese Dessert and Buffet
Let's Sweet
2010-08-15
I have often come across Japanese Buffets, Indian Buffets, Dim Sum Buffets and even the all exotic Meat Buffets, but this is perhaps my first time to a Japanese Dessert Buffet! From the popular brands such as “Ajisen Ramen”, “Manpuku”, “Botejyu”, “Fruit Paradise” and “Aoba” under its belt, Japan Foods Holding Ltd is launching a new concept of desserts and sweets, served a la buffet style – “Let’s Sweets”!They have a wide variety of Japanese desserts in the buffet menu with items ranging from the Dancing Yaki Mochi to crepes and even small serving of colourful jellies served in shot glasses. The buffet is not only limited to desserts as they also have a spread of savouries to balance it out. Italian inspired dishes like Japanese pasta and pizza are available together with the all popular Japanese curry served with steamed rice. And even finger foods like prawns with spicy chilli sauce. Very tempting. Its a good deal except that there is a time limit of 60 minutes for lunch and 80minutes for dinner. On the positive note, I am sure everyone will have a chance to visit the restaurant in that sense. For more photos and a detailed review, please visit http://www.gourmetestorie.com/?p=4615…Read More

Beachfront Dining Experience

Communal Platter for two with 1 main ea, a sharing of sides, and a enjoyment of desserts together. I opted for the COAST platter which includes a smörgåsbord of fresh slices of sashimi, crabs, prawns, oysters and clams. Tastes of the ocean is very apparent here with focus being on the natural flavours. The only thing to note is that with the COAST Platter, an addition of $18 per person is added to the bill. It might be a bit too pricey in the end, but if you are paying for the ambience, escape from the city feel, then it might be worth it.For me, I had the Seared King Scallops with Smoked Sea Urchin Risotto. Not too bad with the risotto giving off a slightly smoky yet sea salty flavour from the sea urchin. And the seared scallops retained its juiciness. The Grand Assiette of desserts was ok, a little too sweet in some areas with unique different flavours. Service was acceptable though I would have preferred the staff then to be more knowledgeable of the menu even though its newly opened. Though now I do hear that they have become better.1 TwentySix is definitely an escape from the city with a garden like atmosphere coupled with the serenity of the sea and the sand. Of course, this must come with a price to pay.For more photos, do check out the link at http://www.gourmetestorie.com/?p=105…Read More

Joyful Exquisite Unpretentious Cuisine
One Rochester
2010-08-09
It was a pleasant experience dining at 1 Rochester. Service was very good with the staff being knowledgeable of the cuisine offered.I especially enjoyed the "Deconstructed" Strawberry Shortcake. Layered techniques proves impeccable in this creation with soft sponge topped with ice cream, bits of filo pastry and then adorned with a giant wholesome sliced strawberry fan makes this dessert mouthwatering. The Grilled Cheese soufle was also excellent. Light, smooth and creamy, it was one dish that I could go back for seconds and thirds.Very nice experience, with a beautiful ambience and setting in the garden. For more photos of what I ate at 1-Rochester, check out http://www.gourmetestorie.com/?p=358…Read More

Putu Bola and fantastic Indian Vegetarian Cuisine.
Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian
2010-08-07
It has probably been a very long time since i stepped into an Indian Vegetarian restaurant and Ananda Bhavan has left me impressed.Tried their Putu Bola at their media event and while almost tasteless yet sugary sweet with the dessicated coconut and sugar, it was a humble experience altogether. For Indian Vegetarian cuisine, I left full and happy. Savoury, slightly sweet, and very, very generous portions and ingredients, it tempts me to be an Indian Vegetarian convert!Good =)…Read More
