Lee Wee & Brother's Foodstuff
2013-10-11
This stall is located inside Kovan Hougang Market & Food Centre..I like the packet nasi lemak at this stall, the nice has nice strong coconut taste, the chiili sauce is sweet and spicy enough and the fish inside is fresh.. I will also add on a stick of their fish otah, their otah is nice, there are fish cubes in it and the otah is has nice taste of spice... apart from the normal fish otah, there are also prawn, crab and non-spicy otah available to choose from...…Read More

Nice Fishball noodles
LiXin Teochew Fishball Noodles
2013-10-08
My Sister in Law was raving to me about this nice teochew fishball noodles at the newly opened food republic at Bread Talk HQ, so I decide go and give it a trylocated at the corner of the food republic, and they have a few noodles types to choose from yellow noodles to bee hoon to kueh tiao..I ordered the bee hoon dry and is very satisfied with my order. The sauce is thick and the bee hoon fully absorbed the sauce, nice and remind me of my days during school days when we had fishball noodles dry in schoolthe fishballs are springy and the fish dumplings are nice, the skin is springy and the minced pork filling is fresh and nice, very different than what I eat outside..…Read More

Fishhead Steamboat
Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat
2013-09-27
My auntie is a great fan for this Tian Wai Tian Fishhead steamboat at Serangoon, beside the Serangoon Boardway Studio and so she will often dates us to this place for dinner...The fishhead steamboat with generous pieces of fish in the nice, sweet and fragrant soup base.. you can always ask them for a refill on the soup..Chilli prawn, this is pretty normal, not much taste. We also ordered a plate of fried kalian and prawn rolls. The vegetables is normal and the prawn rolls are crispy with well marinated prawn/minced pork fillings.Sweet and Sour pork ribs, this is quite nice, the pork ribs is tender and the sauce is nice. This place can be quite crowded at times and a little difficult to find parking lots.…Read More

Great Chill Out Place
The Green Door
2013-09-27
After the heavy dinner at Road House, we decide to walk over to The Green Door that is directly opposite to Roadhouse for a drink.. The Green Door is a very romantic chiil out place with many recycled items used for decorating.. Whisky sour $17, combination of bourbon and lime, Pauline commented that this drink is nice with nice bitter and sourish taste...Birthday gal decides to have Lychee martini $17, but she finds this drink too sweet and not much alcoholic taste...Virgin margarita w/ lime $14, a non-alcoholic drink that is refreshing and nice.. …Read More

Birthday Dinner Celebration
Roadhouse
2013-09-27
After reading an article on Openrice about this roadhouse, we decide to meet here for our August Baby Celebration.. nice place that is located in Dempsey hill, a very quiet place and Sam told us that this Dempsey Hill used to be the former British military barracks that dates back to the 18th century... The restaurant has the modern American Diner concept and the food here mainly American styled food..Crispy Calamari rings $16, this is pretty normal, the calamari is not very crispy but is glad the squid is fresh..BBQ ribs $29, the ribs are well barbequed and well marinated but I find the meat a little dry and is quite filling.. however the onion ring were good and tasty. The coleslaw is nice, sweet and refreshing..Theresa ordered the Japanese Prawn Star $24, a Beer battered chunky Prawn patty with Wasabi Mayonnaise. Theresa cannot finish this as she says this is too salty to finish..Pauline had the Fabulous Foie Gras $32, she commented that this is a little salty and oily but still is delicious.. the pan seared Foie Gras is soft and creamy. EL and Jan shared this Bacon meatloaf $35, this is delicious, the bacon is tasty and the meat that is inside the bacon is juicy and well marinated..We ordered this clam chowder too, nice, thick cream soup with clams in it and a bowl full of potato cubes, nice...We had a great evening, the atmosphere is nice and cosy. The staffs are very friendly and nice.. great place to hang out with friends....given the quantity of the food and service, we feel the price we paid is quite reasonable...…Read More

Nice Hock Chew Fishballs
Meng Kee Minced Pork Noodles
2013-09-27
We are seated in front of this stall and notice there is always a queue in front of the stall. Many people around us are eating their noodles.. out of curiosity, we decide to buy a bowl to try. The stall states that they are selling minced pork noodles but we bought the hock chew fishballs soup ($3.00) to try instead as my hubby is a big fans for hock chew fishballs.. we did not regret our choice, I am not a fan for hock chew fishballs but the hock chew fishballs here are really worth trying.. the fishball paste is springy and has sweet, nice fish taste.. the minced pork filliing is generous and well marinated.. the best part is you can taste the distinct different taste of fish paste and minced pork when you bite on it, well balanced and delicious.. uncooked balls are available for sales too.. great for having it for steamboat at home...look at the well balanced hock chew fishballs...…Read More

Desserts Time
1357 Dessert Cafe
2013-09-27
Happen to chance upon this 1357 Dessert Café while we are walking over to retrieve our car after dinner.. a simple, cozy shop that is located next to Serangoon Broadway Studio. The interior design is very simple and homely designs.. Hubby ordered a Mixed Melon sago ($3.50), quite ok, strong coconut milk taste and the honeydew and watermelon are sweet. My sister in law ordered this Mango sago with pomelo ($3.90), this is nice, the mango sauce is thick and has strong mango taste with sweet mango cubes..My brother in law ordered the Grass Jelly with Longan ($2.80) and I ordered the Grass Jelly with Mixed fruits ($2.80), nothing much to rave on this just that the grass jelly is nice and not sweet, a very refreshing dessert...…Read More

Nice Durian Cake
Emicakes
2013-09-27
My girlfriend just moved house and invited us over to her house. I decide to buy a Emicake Premium D24 Durian Cake ($47 for 15cm) up to share since both of us are fans of durians... the durian cake from Emicakes is nice with thick layer of fresh durian puree between layers of soft and moist sponge cakes. You can taste that the durian they use are of good quality and is made from real durians. The after taste of eating the cake is so nice, just like eating real durians... Apart from this Premium D24 Durian Cake, you can also choose the Mao Shan Wang Cake or the Classic D24 Durian Cake...…Read More

Taiwanese Food Craves
Snackz It!
2013-09-26
Been 4years since I last visit Taiwan and I am missing Taiwan food such as Ah Zong Mian Xian, lu rou fan and Chicken Cutlet. Been sourcing around for nice, yummy Taiwanese food but cannot really find one that I like till I chance upon this Ke Kou Wei...The mee suan that is sold here has 2 favours for customers to choose from: the usual oyster mee suan or the pork ribs mee suan. I have chosen the oyster mee suan, the soup is thick and yet not starchy, the oysters are fresh and the soup is tasty and flavourful. For the oyster mee suan, they have set available at $7.30 that include either the crispy chicken/popcorn chicken/Crispy pork/crispy calamari/mushroom fritters and a drink.. personally, I find this set quite worth the money as the serving is quite huge and is very filling..As I am eating outside, I decide to buy the popcorn chicken for the mee suan set for easy consumption. The popcorn chicken is crispy on the outside and yet tender and juicy on the inside. Still very nice and crispy even when I eat it when its no longer hot.I also buy a packet of lu rou fan ($4.80)for my hubby, hubby says this is nice, the minced pork is well marinated and the soya sauce is thick and yummy.. this rice also come with 1 braised egg and some prickled vegetables...The food here is reasonably priced and I will definitely come back to try the other food again..…Read More

Bad Service at TCC MBS
TCC - The Connoisseur Concerto
2013-09-26
We were quite surprised when we reach coz its usually quiet today and only one server at TCC and his attitude is not very good. Look at the glass for water, there's an obvious stain on the cup and when I ask him to change for me, his face turn a little black. Service is also slow as there is only one server.. and we are so annoyed as many items on the menu is out of stock.Ordered the July's feature drink - Sensorial Sizzle but was quite disappointed as the drink tasted a little different from what I have drink from other branches and again the jelly that is supposed to be in the drink is out of stock.Tuna Tataki Salad, nothing to rave, just another salad with raw tuna..Spicy-hot Wings, luckily this is nice, crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside..Crisp-club Sandwich, hubby ordered this and commented that this is not nice, the bread is over toasted and a little hard..Pan-seared Chicken Breast w/ Shogayaki Sauce, my friends commented that this is nice, the chicken is tender and the sauce is nice..We ordered some desserts to share, Pinana Landing and Devil-misu. The cake for the pinana landing is a little too dry and the Devil-misu is not nice at all.. it does not taste and look like tiramisu, to me, I think it looks more like a mousse drink, not nice at all, thick and not much of coffee taste.Given the kind of service and food quality, I doubt I will ever return to TCC at MBS again.…Read More

My Favourite Ice Cream Brand
Häagen-Dazs
2013-09-26
Not knowing where to go after dinner and since my friend is driving today, we decide to drive over to Haagen-Dazz at Siglap for dessert and chit chatting session.. The Haagen-Dazz at Siglap is quite small and have limited seats but the staffs here are very friendly and prompt upon calling them..They have separate menus for drinks and ice creams...I ordered my all time favourite Strawberry cheesecake ice cream in a waffle cone. This is one of my favourite ice cream flavour at Haagen-Dazz. There is strong taste of strawberry infused with cheesecake cubes in it. The ice cream is smooth and sweet. The waffle cone is nice too...My friend ordered a single scoop of cookies and cream ice cream.. from her face, I know it is nice coz she never complainsAnother friend of mine decides to order 3 scoops of ice-cream and she says all are so nice...Thou Haagen-Dazz ice cream are slightly highly priced but I think it is quite worth as their ice cream is smooth and nice..…Read More

Coffee Session with Friend
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
2013-09-26
Theresa n me meet up earlier at MBS and we decide to ease our coffee craving at the Coffee Bean café that is located next to the fountain at MBS, they have both indoor seatings and "outdoor" seatings... thou the seats are located outdoor, but do not worry, they are not hot as it is still within the shopping mall and thus air-conditioned..they have this system installed on all their tables, the staffs came to us almost immediately when we press on the button to get their attention and service..I ordered a cup of latte. The latte here is nice, strong coffee taste and well balanced of milk and coffee. The milk did not cover the taste of the coffee but enhance the taste.Theresa had cappuccino and she commented that its nice and strong coffee taste too..I find that this place is great for friends gathering and the staffs here are quite nice and polite too.. …Read More

Since we are nearby, we decide to drive over to buy our favourite char siew bao from Tanjong Rhu Pau & Confectionery.. this is one of our favourite char siew bao as the skin is not too thick yet the skin is soft and nice. The char siew filling is sweet and the char siew is chewy and well marinated.. priced at $7 for 10 mini pau packed in a box, it is definitely worth buying and try.. but it can be quite difficult to find parking lot sometimes...…Read More

Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow
2013-09-26
As hubby is walking around not knowing what to eat, he decides to join the long queue for this lao fu zi fried kway tiao.. this fried kway tiao stall has been operating in Old Airport road food centre for quite long and many are here for their fried kway tiao.. however, this is our first time trying..
