It is not easy to locate this new Korean fried chicken outlet, as it is tucked away in a narrow corridor behind Goldheart Jewellery. What struck me was the small size of the outlet - a standard shop unit with the kitchen taking 1/4 of the space, the order counter taking 1/4 and the remainder being the seating area which can accommodate only 15 diners or so. It was full on Friday late afternoon so we had to shelve plans to try the de riguer two piece chicken set. We opted for NeNe Pop and NeNe Bap, priced at $5.90 nett each.

After paying for our order we were given a round, palmsized timer that looked like a paperweight, and was asked to return when it lights up and emits a buzzing sound (similar to the ones used at Medzs Bistro at Orchard Central B2). So this is not your typical fast food outlet - we waited about 15mins along the corridor outside the shop, eyeing the window display of its neighboring toy cum stationery shop to kill time. The food was worth waiting for. NeNe Bap was a twist on the popular Bibimbap - rice topped with chicken bits, shredded seaweed, shredded vegetables and a tasty sauce that reminded me of bulgogi marinade. NeNe Pop is actually a cup of soda (choice of coke, sprite or fanta) below a small bowl of tater tots (potato) and moreish, crunchy popcorn chicken drizzled with a bright red, sweet and spicy sauce (see photo). The NeNe Bap was reasonably priced but we felt the NeNe Pop was a little pricey. It was amazing that the popcorn chicken remained crunchy despite the sauce coating while the chicken meat beneath the batter remained moist. Next time we will order the fried chicken through their hotline and pick
up the chicken
