I was very curious on the name of this cafe, Va Va Voom. It sounds like its created by the engine of a motorbike. I was very curious on the name of this cafe, Va Va Voom. It sounds like its created by the engine of a motorbike. Indeed, in Vietnam, there are many eateries found along the road sides which scooters and bikes will drive past making that noise. By naming the cafe Va Va Voom, it signifies the food found here are simple, humble, homely cuisine found in those road side eateries.

I had the Vietnamese Mango Salad ($5) as a starter. I was surprise by how it was served differently from the Thai style. As I’m a vivid fan of Thai food, I’ve tried lots of mango and papaya and it never fails to have fish sauce in it. However, this mango salad served different as it’s completely dry with the sweet and tangy sauce beside it for the guest to add the desirable amount to their liking. Also, another difference is the prawn crackers in this mango salad compared to the Thai version.

Lastly, the main dish which I’ve been waiting for. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup ($5.50) or better known as Pho in Vietnam is simply irresistible!! Right in front of me, with the aroma of it entering my nostrils, I can feel the my heart beating so fast and my mind telling me that I have succumb to the wonderful sight and smell of it.

I tried very hard to keep my cool and control myself as I took a spoonful of the soup and taste it. What a blast!! With the raw slices of beef and the hot boiling soup poured over it, I can taste the freshness of bean sprouts, the slight hint of the juiciness of the beef. Next, I took a slice of the beef and place it in my mouth. Slowly, as I chew on the slice of soft, tender and succulent beef melting away in my mouth. The rice noodles was shiny surface with the slight hint of fats from the beef slices. It was so smooth and soft as I took a mouthful of it. I would say that this is one of the best beef noodles i’ve ever eaten. Oh, don’t even worry about the soup as it’s not spicy at all. Seriously, Vietnamese can’t take spicy food that well compared to most Singaporeans.
