another night we had visited Chijmes, this time we chose this 'pizza' place. We had ordered Calzone Vesuvio (signature dish here) and one spaghetti with seafood! This is a very juicy dish! Rich in taste as well. Sadly the portion is a bit small Calzone Vesuvio does't seem to be my type. It is a huge dish though, very meaty indeed... when it colds down, it doesn't taste nice at all... so it is advise to taste it when it is still warm... continue reading

It was our first visit to Pizzarie Giardino. The dome-like design is quite impressive. I ordered the Amatricana ($21), and loving it. The generous portion is slightly too much for me though. The tomato sauce is very appetizing, with heaps of sausages in there. Their signature pizza - Calzone Vesuvio ($25) is kind of so so to me. The pocket-like pizza is filled with cheesy ingredients, and topped with lots of tomato sauce too. The dough is slightly too thick, hence quite filling. For desserts, we had the Panna Cotta ($11), the rich flavoured pudding has a nice and smooth texture, but the strawberry cubes are sour! Tiramisu ($12) was alright, with the balance taste between coffee and liquor. Overall speaking, the food here are quite alright, but the service is extremely slow. We were waited for more than 20min to have our bill settled, not impressed. continue reading

Have eaten here a few times over the years but never reviewd. Had dinner there with B on Fri night. Place was not too packed, and we were seated promptly. We ordered the eggplant ( melazane parmigiana) and pork sausage pizza( salsiccia e scarmoza). The eggplant was interestingly mashed before it was baked with generous amounts of cheese, but it was slightly too cheesy and mushy. The pizza was good.. I love the texture of the crust. Slightly small in size for price ($23), but good to be shared by 2. Overall, ok, but quality and size of dishes seems to have dropped a bit over the past year. The service was passable, but I do love al fresco dining! continue reading

For a more detailed review with pictures, please check out http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com/2012/02/pizzeria-giardino-chijmes.htmlPizzeria Giardino's open-air location at the green lawn of the historic Chijmes, while picturesque, makes this quite the attraction to flies, we were swatting flies away throughout our dinner. If you're one of those people that require the comfort of air-conditioned surroundings, this is definitely not the place for you. Despite the prevalence of fans and a slight breeze, we found ourselves rushing through our food so we could escape from the heat and humidity. But, if you're a smoker, this is quite a dining paradise. Many of the tables were set aside for smokers. We got1) Prosciutto e Melone ($17) terrific-I don't usually eat melons, but this were brilliantly sweet and juicy, a perfect complement to the ham.2) Insalata di Rucola ($13), rucola leaves interspersed with shaved parmesan and cherry tomatoes, and dressed lightly with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I was quite surprised that the portion was so huge.3) Gamberi e Finghi ($23) crunchy, marinated prawns and shitake mushrooms. This was well done and perfectly portioned for one person4) Mushroom Ravioli ($21) too cloying. I was unable to eat more than 5 raviolis in this dish. Strictly for cream lovers, this one continue reading

Romance is in the evening air at Chijmes. Sitting near the bar allows the diner to fully absorb the magical surroundings.Pizza is the restaurant's specialty. Being huge fans of cheese, we ordered a four cheese pizza. The moment it arrived, we could detect the rich smell of cheese present in that smoking hot pizza. Though slightly salty, it more than made up for its flaw with the mixture of flavors that constantly danced around our tongues.Definitely worth every single cent! continue reading
